Night Watch and Day Watch (Fox Japan) impressions
I got Night Watch and Day Watch double-pack from Amazon Japan today, one day before the release day in Japan (Pelican Post again delivered on the day of shipping and for free!).
Just checking them out and to my surprise the discs are European versions when I select PS3's BD menu language as English (my default) and Japanese versions when I select BD menu language as Japanese. Is this something really new, I haven't seen that happen before? In European mode, lots of European languages are covered and menus are in English. This is quite a nice implementation. Discs are marked as region A, didn't confirm on my PC yet. I was hoping for the Russian DTS tracks to be 1.5 mbps but unfortunately they are only 768 kbps. Fox seems to be embracing TrueHD now as they have included promotional TrueHD leaflets and TrueHD "trading cards" in both cases. Planning to watch Night Watch now so I'll post some actual impressons later.

Are the English subtitles written in just boring regular subtitle text, or are they the crazy comic book subtitles the DVD had?

PowerDVD 7.3 and WinDVD9 can play them when I turn AnyDVD HD off. I haven't set any region for my drive nor WinDVD9 so I think the discs are really region free. I tried Master and Commander US region A release as reference and my WinDVD9 can't play it (while AnyDVD is off) and complains about region. => So I think these are really region free! (But BD+ infested...)
