Really? Out of all asian releases your prefer an Ang Lee film? I rented this for my GF on netflix, she seemed to say it was OK nothing special. Needless to say I feel asleep in the first scene.

What makes it a film you enjoy? (besides the asian softcore) Maybe Ill give it another try.

Yes, really. What interested me was the loose history mostly set in Hong Kong in 1938 and in Shanghai in 1942, when the city was occupied by the Japanese and ruled by a puppet government of Wang Jingwei.
Surprizing what a knowledge of history will do. Sets and costumes were exceptional. Plus, I have spent time in both Hong Kong and Shanghai in Summer of 2004 after graduating from Stanford.

I assure you Asian nudity does nothing for me. A turn off if anything.

On the American DVD, subtitles actually appear in both the upper and lower bars, which is impossible to watch on a 2.35:1 screen.
I will check it this evening, I didn't pay much attention to the positioning of the subs when I watched it so I don't remember exactly. I don't remember anything being on the upper bar but I'm not sure if it was on top of the video image or in the lower bar or partly both.

I just checked and the subtitles on Taegukgi are on the image area, nothing seems to appear below or above so it should work well in a 2.35:1 setup.

It can also be pre-ordered from YesAsia, US$36.99 + Free International Shipping. Might be an alternative depending on dvdfromkorea's shipping costs.

Sigh. WTF are series like "Jewel Of the Palace" coming onto BR? I mean I'm pretty sure that was shot in HD. HD Beta, whatever res. that is and I'm guessing it would look great considering I THINK it was suppose to be pretty high budget.
I would LOVE "Delightful Girl Choon-Hyang" with Han Chae Young if that was shot in HD and with Lossless audio as well since I'd LOVE hearing that whole soundtrack like that as such. I already own the OST. "One Percent Of Anything" as well since the guy who plays the Grandfather in "The Host" is in this as well and is great.
I will be picking up Taekgugi though.

dvdfromkorea's shipping is 6 USD to Japan for both 1 and 2 disc packages based on my 2 orders (with the standard registered Air Mail shipping). That puts the overall price pretty close to YesAsia. The cost of this one shipped to me from dvdkorea is US$37.99, so it's just 1 USD more expensive. With 2 disc and bigger orders dvdfromkorea probably works out to be slightly cheaper.

I like the idea of getting Korean releases directly from Korea as they probably arrive a few days earlier that way I'll keep buying my Hong Kong releases from YesAsia.

I'm already away from home on a summer holiday trip (now on the way to airport actually) so I can't scan anything for a couple of weeks but I'll try to do it in August when I'm back.
