Default 'Starship Troopers' (UK Import) - High-Def Digest review

With the Blu-ray edition of 'Starship Troopers' still awaiting a US release date, this UK import may be just what the doctor ordered. Though it lacks the robost supplements package of the 2002 Special Edition DVD, Josh Zyber says this one more than delivers on the bottom line, earning four-star scores for both video and audio.

i can't recommend Sendit.com enough. It's the cheapest place in the UK to buy from (unless you come across a one-off offer) and they always provide a great service

How is the opening sequence of trailers a "vital disc stat"?

I've always felt this movie was under appreciated. Sure it is not the best movie ever, but it is not as bad as people once thought it was. Also, as stated in the review the special effects still look great. In my opinion they still hold there own to most of the movies released these days.

Thanks for the review, I specially liked the "cutting room" section. I hope it becomes a regular feature.

That being said, I didnīt like the ignorant comment about my city. You clearly don't know the demographics.

But still, you do a great job.

Can I assume you're talking about Buenos Aires?

The character of "Johnny Rico" was Hispanic in the Robert Heinlein novel. The actual name was "Juan" and he was Puerto Rican, if I recall correctly. The choice to cast all white young actors in roles that were Hispanic in the novel was a conscious decision by Verhoeven and his screenwriter.

Before someone suggests that this was just Hollywood racism, if that were the case he could have changed their names and the city they live in. The movie makes a point that they all have Hispanic-sounding names.

No, what I meant is that people assume that we're not white and that the actors are not realistic as people who live in Buenos Aires.
We are over 90% white, specially in Buenos Aires.

If Heinlein ever had to see this movie, or read the review, he'd be glad he's dead. I'm glad (I guess) that the AQ and PQ are good (as they were in the original DVD) but nothing can save this movie. It fails a re-creation (or even a re- interpretation) of the original book; as noted in the review it fail[ed] as an anti-war / anti-US propaganda tool (by somehow being too suble and at the same time so over the top that you can't take the criticism seriously (unless you are a bona fide member of the tinfoilhat truther squad); and it fails as a cool sci-fi action flick due to the execrable acting and the unreality of having a massive number of starships but absolutely no heavy weapons.

Also, I could be wrong but for some reason recall that Juan Rico was from the Phillipines, but that his mom was in B.A. visiting relatives when it got skragged.
