A Bittersweet Life (JP - Pony Canyon) (No English)
I received the new Japanese release of A Bittersweet Life yesterday from Amazon JP. The movie's been rather highly anticipated on Blu-ray but this version has no English subs (as was known beforehand). I'm planning to watch it with external subs.
Case Pics:

Basic Specs:
- Region free BD50
- Video: MPEG-4 AVC 2.35:1 (OAR) 1080p / 23.976 fps (30035 kbps)
- Audio: Korean Dolby TrueHD 6.1 EX + 2 Korean DD 2.0 640 kbps commentary tracks
- Subtitles: Optional Japanese, Korean and 2 x Japanese for the commentary tracks
- Extras: 63 minutes in 1080i60 AVC (7194 kbps): Promotion, festivals, interviews etc.
(mostly in Korean with Japanese subs)
The case identifies the best audio track as Dolby TrueHD 6.1 EX but BD info scan claims it as 5.1. Perhaps it didn't recognize it properly.

PQ looks rather rough and grainy, somewhat soft and hazy but unmolested and natural. I'll comment in more detail after I have watched the movie.

Kannisto....thank you for taking the time and effort to post the screen captures. I must say I'm disappointed in the quality of this Blu-ray. The film could use a bit of degraining and sharpening. I was anxiously awaiting the Korean Blu-ray release - Nov. 20th - but I have a feeling that it will be of the same quality. Keeping my fingers crossed that it's a different re-master but not holding my breath

The ironic thing is that Pony Canyon has issued an impressively expansive deluxe DVD set of Bittersweet Life. The set was super-fancy with everything but the kitchen sink. This Blu-ray looks like a thoughtless rush-job judging from the lousy DVD cover and the picture quality of the film. This great film deserves more than this. -

I have the original Korean DVD release, which is terribly soft. So much so that it still looks bad even when I ripped it to watch on my iPod.
I didn't think the movie was that great either, unfortunately.Josh Z

Maybe because you watched it on an iPod
I think it's ironic an HDD Contributor would watch a full-length movie on an iPod
I can't watch a movie on anything less than a 32" TV and I'm not an A/V connoisseur in the slightest bit. I need some level of immersion and a smartphone or a laptop screen doesn't provide that.

I don't watch anything I care about on my phone or iPod.
I find my DVD collection unwatchable on my projector these days. Yet I still have countless discs in my collection that I never got around to watching. Ripping them to watch during my morning commute allows me to put them to some use, and most DVDs look fine at that screen size.Josh Z

This film is supposedly getting a Korean steelbook BD release on November 19 with English subs. -

I am so sick of that David Lynch clip. Someone needs to tell him that Inland Empire is unwatchable on any screen larger than 4 inches.
Lynch also believes that chapter stops destroy the "continuum" of a movie, and should be banned from all video discs. Do you side with him on that too?Josh Z

Unfortunately that has a rather unknown release date as it was supposed to come out a couple of months ago already but didn't.
