Two movies by the female Japanese director Naoko Ogigami will be released by VAP on 22nd of September on Blu-ray.

Kamome shokudô (Kamome Diner / Ruokala Lokki), direct translation of the title would be "Diner Gull" (where Gull is the name of the diner, a kind of bird):

This is a movie about a Japanese woman who sets up a small diner in Helsinki, Finland and who is later joined by two other Japanese women who have ended up in Helsinki by some other circumstances. The three of them work hard to make the diner successful, and run into some strange Finns along the way. It became quite popular in Japan, especially among women, and had a marketing campaign that also involved Finnish design kitchenware and furniture companies whose products are also prominently but subtly featured in the film and the film was good for Finland's tourism as well. The movie is quite famous among the Finns in Japan There are perhaps some similarities to Bagdad Cafe in terms of the basic premise of the story but they are not too similar. Personally I enjoyed the movie.

Megane (Glasses) is a newer film by the same director. I haven't seen this one yet. It seems to have some of the same actresses as Kamome shokudô.

I watched this today and enjoyed the movie a lot again. PQ was solid, quite natural with slightly warm colors & film-like. Audio is fully adequate, just stereo and it's mostly dialogue with some music.
