Randîzu / Randies (Japan - GP Museum)

GP Museum just started releasing on Blu-ray in Japan (since April) so I was curious in what their releases are like. They seem to be a rather low-budget indie studio, and their first Blu-ray releases (Randies and High School Girl Zombie) don't seem to be much available in the usual B&M stores that sell BDs. Also the MRSPs were quite high at 4935 yen considering that the movies seem to be quite low budget productions.

I found out that a Yahoo Japan Auctions seller was selling a bunch of new copies of Randies at relatively good prices so I picked up one from there to check it out (I paid 2100 yen for it there). I don't know much about the movie yet, but it seems to be a bit similar in style to like Crows Zero I / II and Drop (2009), with some high school age young deliquents fighting each other. I enjoyed Crows Zero I & II and recently recorded Drop from a Japanese HDTV movie channel, yet to watch it though. Randies seems to have a couple of the same actors that appeared in Crows Zero movies (in fairly central supporting roles).

PQ seems pretty good at a glance, the movie has clearly been shot digitally, perhaps at some HD digital video camera that produces 1080i60 output. The image is rather clean and fairly detailed but not film-like. Maybe the movie was originally produced with only stereo audio as well. High School Girl Zombie seemed to have also MPEG-4 AVC video and LPCM 2.0 audio based on the case which I saw at one shop.

There were lots of frames that showed interlace lines when I was getting these screencaps, I guess the source data is truly interlaced and it's not just a 1080i60 presentation of a progressive source. Took these with Nero 8 Showtime and converted to png by Total Image Converter as MPC - HC didn't successfully play this content. With this method the png files become much larger for some reason.
