Question Whassappening with my Panny BD55?

I cannot play "Drag me to Hell" on Blu-ray!

Also, It won't play "Crank2 High Voltage" on Blu-ray neither!

* By the way, I'm from Canada, and these two blu-ray discs are in excellent condition,
from my video rental store.

))) Solution anyone?

Have you installed the most recent firmware update? Looks like the current version is 2.0, released July 8 -

crank 2 also needs some type of memory stick or something like that, there was a thread in the bd forum, i'd imagine drag me to hell is probably the same way

Question Hey, what's going on?

My BD55 has the version 1.7 installed in it.

And I don't have an SD card (memory stick).

* Now, what's that? Since when do you need a memory stick in your Panny player, to simply play a blu-ray disc? I'm talking just about playing the disc, not BD Live access.

Is Panasonic missing the boat here?

Do I need another player just to play my blu-ray discs?
Can they make a player that has the requisite internal memory?
We're almost in the year 2010. Are they not following the tech. trend yet?

** All right, firmware update is inescapable, I'll go with that.
But, memory stick (SD card) just to play your Blu-ray discs! What the heck!

What da ya think?

no it's just lionsgate, netflix even gave free rentals out if you rented the crank 2 bd because a lot of players had issues

Thumbs up Got it now, Thanks guys.

Just recently found out the issues.

1. "Drag me to Hell" needs firmware version 2.0 installed in my BD55, to be able to play! --> TY Cochise.
What a drag? I guess, we're not out of the woods yet...
We are stuck with firmware updates FOREVER.
(Tomorrow new Blu-ray title release will require another firmware; and that's too bad for people without internet connection).

2. "Crank2: High Voltage" needs an SD card inserted in the SD card slot of my BD55!
(From Panasonic web site Customer Support). --> TY nmcmahan52.
Now, this is just too much! That shouldn't happen, EVER.

* Lots of frustration before I found out about this. It took me a lot of time & research.

Thanks again guys to have put me on the right path.

WTF is the SD card supposed to be for? I can understand FW updates for SOME features of a disc, but certainly not for just watching the movie. That is seriously messed up. What about the early players I read about that aren't 2.0 capable? So those people are screwed? I thought the format was supposed to be the better of the HD formats?

Guess I stay with my A-35 player and 250+ movies for awhile longer.

Is there ONE player that will play all the movies without SD cards and constant FW updates?

Constant firmware updates? It's a foregone conclusion that will be necessary. The Oppo is the safest bet as far as customer service and updates are concerned at the present stage...before we all go bankrupt anyway.

For the 'Extras' yes. Just to play the movie tho? That is unacceptable, at least to me.

No, you should not have to have BD-live activated to watch any blu's.... The issue with the Crank 2 title was with how the disc was authored.... defective.
But, yet how do the studios let these get out without testing them?

Don't blame Panasonic. Lionsgate titles are hell. I have problems with my 3600, also.

Thumbs down This ain't right at all.

According to Panasonic, "Crank2: High Voltage" blu-ray disc, from LionsGate,
is also problematic with other manufacturer's players.

Here: http://www.panasonic.ca/English/cust...ce20090417.asp

* But they don't say the disc is bad! And, is this only in Canada?
Anyone from our neighbours in the USA with that problem too?

One thing is for sure, this should NEVER happened. This is a first.

As I said, Lionsgate titles have been hell on many players (not just Panasonic). Lionsgate needs to work on their authoring skills.

You must have the Oppo blu-ray player, right? Congratulations!

* How's the playback from DVD Audio discs and HDCD encoded discs?
