Default Sony BDP-S760 - a simply superb midi BD player with HD Picture Adjust and Wi-Fi

Today I replaced my Panasonic DMP-BD35 with the above player.
Basically this is the best player for features that I have owned to date. Picture and sound are both simply superb.
The superb Hi Def picture is more than helped by a great set of Picture Adjust Controls, imported in from the flagship BDP-S5000ES. And this was the selling point for me.

Picture Quality Mode allows you to choose from
Standard
Brighter Room
Theatre Room
Memory

Video Equaliser comprises of
Contrast
Brightness
Chroma
Hue
Gamma
This can only be used when Memory Picture Mode is selected.

HD Reality Enhancer comprises of:
Enhance (enhances scene picture outline by pixel)
Smoothing (smooths gradation on flat parts of the picture)
FGR (reduces Film Grain)

I am currently running on Theatre Room mode and have been using the FGR function to varying degrees of success on a variety of s.
Blue Thunder in particular really benefits from that mode on full. In the case of The Deep, this does not make a great deal of difference.
On Near Dark, grain is noticeably reduced and Spiderman 3 seems to lose any grain altogether. Personally, as far as the issue of grain is concerned, I don't like it to the point that it can become intrusive but instead prefer it there in the background, rather than completely removed.

Incidentally, the player is fully Wi-Fi compatible and it only took me a few minutes to get this up and running. Shortly after that I was able to download the latest firmware and install it. First time ever via Wi-Fi for that!

The S760 also has 7.1 analogue inputs for anyone who needs to hook it up via that method.

Very early days yet but this is shaping up to be a brilliant player and a great buy.
What Hi-Fi sound and Vision have made it their Product Of The Year:

As for me, I am loving every minute with this player so far.....

And I forgot to add, the retailers can make it multi region on DVD for you, a capability that I gladly said yes to. Upscaling on what I have seen so far is superb....

I haven't seen anything about the US equivalent yet. It sounds like a great player.

Chris,

I am amazed that this player is not yet available for people in the US to buy.
That said it is creeping ever closer, as the Sony site in Canada indicates:

Grain removal function

Somehow that doesn't appeal to me & I assure you many, many others would be turned off as well about that feature.

Cool wifi though.

On a feature rich player, that is just one function which can be either used or not as the case may be.
Personally, I have used it to reduce excessive grain on some discs but mostly I have left the picture as is....

I don't get it. Other than the fact that it comes with built-in Wi-Fi (a very good thing, I think), the picture control is actually for more restrictive than a Pioneer BDP-320FD at only 2/3 of the price (at least in Canada).

Picture control in Pioneer includes Pioneer PDP, Pioneer LCD, Pioneer Projector, Projector, LCD, PDP, Professional, Memory 1, Memory 2, Memory 3.

Each of the the memory have 11(?) parameters such as Block Noise Reduction, Mosquito Noise Reduction, Chroma Noise Reduction, Luminance Noise Reduction, Gamma correction, Detail Adjustment and much more

Also the Pioneer allows you to choose whether you want your 8-bit or 16-bit colour, the option of 4:4:4, 4:2:2, RGB 16-235 and 1-256.

What Hi Fi also gave the 320 their highest rating.

Weird...

If only the 320 comes with built-in WiFi.
