It is never going to very get far, unless it is Backwards compatible. They are still doing similar amazing things with good ol dvd in the labs.
huh, 32gb each layer... You know HD DVD had a similar phenomena with their Recordable disc, some had great capacity than the official ones being pressed for movies. -

I wonder what the yield is like for a disc with that many layers

Even if we don't get it this generation, it may prove useful for 4K or 8K movies and thus extend the life of phsyical media as we know it...

shame the studios will never really take advantage of something like this.
