Analog cable help
I need some help, I just bought the Memorex blu-ray player on woot.com and it claims to have 5.1 analog outs on it. My old Onkyo receiver doesn't have HDMI but it does have 5.1 analog inputs.
My question is this...do I need to just get some of the old composite cables to run them from the blu-ray player to the receiver? Do I use the red cables or the white? I have never had to use the 5.1 analog inputs so I am not quite sure what I need. I did a search and some places have 5.1 cables but they are $75. Any suggestions?Epson 1080UB, PS3 and 161" Draper Screen...pure theater bliss!

monoprice.com
go to www.monoprice.com..they have everything..you can use 2 sets of component cables..that's what I did...just remember to match the outputs correctly to the inputs

you can use component cables? I thought those were just for video. Did you mean composite? So I would need three sets of white / red composite cables? 1 for the front speakers, one for the rear surrounds and one for the sub and center channel. Would thae work?

great! thanks for the advise, much appreciated! I am sure I have three sets of composite cables laying around. Hope they'll do the trick.
So, I am correct in thinking that you cannot use component cables (red, blue, green)? Those are just for video.Epson 1080UB, PS3 and 161" Draper Screen...pure theater bliss!

What Yog said ^^^.
The cables don't care if they're transmitting video or audio. A more technical person could tell you it's the ohm rating that's important. Component video cables are nice & heavy and have an adequate ohm rating. You don't want to use the red & white audio cables included with most electronics, they're too cheaply made for serious audio. -
