Default USM1GH? Sony's USB Flash drive?

I'm confused. Just what is the drive/type that plugs in the back? The USM1GH looks weird compared to regular usb flash drives? Is the Sony's slot for this off beat usb thing or does even the USM1GH go into and adapter and the S350 uses a regular standard usb flash drive socket? I looked at the manual on-line and its not very clear other than referring to the USM1GH drive.

I bet it is a proprietary type of memory, so you can't use your existing $5 USB drive, you'll have to get one from Sony. It looks like only a specific model of drive will fit in that slot.

That's why I'm asking. The literature as I read it is a bit unclear. And the little Sony device, it has an adapter too.

I've read on the owners thread at AVS, you can use just about any flash drive that will fit through the slot. I got the 2GB version when Sony has it listed for $17.99. That was the only reason I bought it.
People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint. It's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly... timey wimey... stuff.

It looks like a regular USB end but without the metal casing thing around it per usual.

Regular USB drives work fine. Playing with it now. I did pick one up at Best Buy as the newer ones ready and write faster and BB had the newest PNY 2gb on sale for 14.98.

Also have discovered you can use a those little USB dongle cables that we get with stuff and wonder why we'd ever need a 1 foot USB cable, well apparently those work fine and you can use USB flash drives that are too big to fit. Also some have lifted the top off, slipped the black gasket, molding, protecting thing out, then the square is quite big and any USB flash drive seems to fit.

    Just playing with mine now.

JS... I am also using a USB dongle with an 8Gb Flash drive attached (I know I'll be using BD-live quite a bit). I like the sony's flash drive but they don't sell it here and... I was a little to impatient to wait for it in the mail.

    Hey all.

I had been scouring the web regarding the right USB Drive to use for this Player and found this thread and specifically Jsmiddleton4's posts.

I just wanted to confirm that the PNY 2GB drive works in the slot fine with no alterations right?

Thanks for the mention of the PNY stick so I could find this thread. First post so...hello all.

Yes it works fine. Although Fry's Electronics here in Arizona has the 8gb Sony one on sale.

    Thanks J, appreciate it.

How much is the Sony one, and what's the difference? I live near a Fry's and need to go pick up some other things there anyway for the new player. Namely a long Cat5 cable for my incoming S350 today.

It was just over 20 dollars, 8 gb. Way bigger than minimum requirements but for 20 bucks, could not pass it up. It is THE one Sony advertises, the funny looking near micro size with regular usb port thing. Its also the latest "fast" type data transfer.

Fry's also has regular memory cards on sale by the way. Totally off topic of course but I picked up 8gb sdhc SD memory cards, mini-sdhc for phones, all for either 10 bucks each or 19 for the mini-sdhc. The mini ones are usually 40 bucks.

If you order them on-line they'll be in the store ready for you to pick up.

This is the one that was just over 20 in the store. On-line its still 60.

Here's the 8gb mini sd sdhc.

Thanks. Yeah I saw online it was $60. I hope my store is selling it for $20, since they are about 15 miles away!

I wonder if the S350 would EVER fill up 8Gbs. I'm guessing no, especially with how infrequent I figure I will use BD-Live. Main feature I'm looking forward to haviung with my new player is BonusView stuff more than BD-Live.

Still 8GBs is hard to pass for $20...assuming my store has that price here in Concord, CA. However I rather have it for myself than the player!

Kind of on the same subject of updating this player for 2.0, can anyone recommend a good Access Point, Bridge, Gaming Adapter thing that would be good for the S350? My Computer is in the next room, and stringing a cable isn't an option.
