Default BD30 stops during disc loading

I was running the 1.6 F/W on the BD30 that I purchased last November and had no problems but decided to go ahead and load the 2.2 since most folks have not had any problems with it. The first disc that I tried to play after updating to 2.2 stopped during the loading process. I thought that maybe that I had a faulty disc so I cleaned it and it reloaded properly and then it played without any problems. The next day the same thing happened on another disc and this same thing continued to happen on most but not all discs that I tried to load. Then it got worse and now it just stops during the loading process and I can not get it to load and play properly on any BR disc that I try to play on the BD30. I tried shutting it off and restarting. I tried unplugging it and plugging it back in but nothing has helped. I called the service center this morning and reported the problem and they said to send it in for warranty service. Do you think it's just a coincidence that I started having these problems after I installed the new 2.2 F/W? Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this problem without having to send it in for service? Thank you in advance for any advice.

Sorry to hear about the problems your having with your BD30. Sometimes a manufacture will issue a firmware out that does cause playback problems. I have experienced this with my Sammy, and I know that recently Sony had problems with their firmware for the (2.40 I believe) and they stopped issuing the firmware out. Sony issued another firmware almost immediately. Took Samsung awhile but they eventually issued a fix. Maybe waiting for the next firmware or calling Panasonic about the availability of another future firmware will alleviate your problem with you BD30. Did you happen to call Panny and ask if it is possible that a future firmware could fix your playback problem with your BD30???

taygan, thank you for the reply. I was thinking the same thing that it's possible that the firmware update caused the problems since the problem started immediately after the update. I didn't ask the service rep if he thought a future firmware update might fix the problem but I did ask him if I could revert back to the 1.6 F/W and he said no. I think that it might be quicker to send in my player for a fix than to wait for the next F/W update.

Yeah, just send the unit in. This would be the only incident that I have heard of where v2.2 basically bricked someone's unit (and the update has been available for awhile).

When you talk about, "stopped loading," are you having the same problems with both Blu-ray and regular DVDs? If it's ONLY with Blu-ray discs, then you might have experienced a drive failure problem that has been affecting a few owners that purchased units last year.

Whatever the case may be, owners have reported a quick turnaround time of about a week from when they sent their units to the Panasonic repair center.

Hope your problems get resolved easily and quickly.

Thanks NK. Yeah, it plays CD's and standard DVD's just fine so it's likely the BR drive since it won't play BR discs. I packaged it up and put it in the mail this afternoon. Hopefully, they can turn it around fairly quickly. Thanks again.
