Laser discs were subject to "laser rot" which was caused by oxidizing of the inner layer of the disc because the disc layers did not adhere properly when manufactured, causing the disc to generate read errors and eventually become unplayable. A particular Columbia manufacturing plant had the biggest problems here - but that was years ago and I thought this type problem had been resolved and have not heard of it happening to the smaller type discs like dvd, etc.

Prestige is the only movie I have heard of this happening to so far. Apparently they had a bad pressing or something

SD DVD's can also suffer from disc rot.
