Default Sony BDP-S350 HD audio output help

at the moment i have a ps3 and toshiba ep30 hd dvd and have just bought a new receiver the sony str dg820.
the main reason for this upgrade was to listen to true hd etc.

But as everyone knows the ep30 and ps3 can only output hd audio via linear pcm as it converts the signal internally and cannot bitstream the signal.

not to confuse anyone i am talking about the hdmi connection and not optical.
having read all the threads on here i need a definite answer off someone that owns the new sony blu ray player.

so basically i want the dts hd, true hd to come up on my receiver and not the inferior linear pcm so does the sony s350 output the audio via bitstream or convert it and output it as Linear pcm and does the true hd come up on the receiver ?

i was thinking of the samsung 1500 but read a review that the picture quality is the same as the ps3.
is the sony s350 better picture quality than the ps3 because at the moment my hd dvd player wipes the floor with the ps3

I just bought the 350 and have a Sony 850 and I can confirm that the 350 can bitstream all the audio formats. My reciever says Dolby True HD and DTS HD MA. Hope this helps. Also, I love the PQ and AQ of the 350.

I have a S350, and it does bitstream everything. As far as picture quality goes, Im not sure its better than the PS3.

LPCM isn't inferior, it is the same. The PS3 sends the HD audio LPCM because it is decoding the audio instead of the receiver. When the sound hits the speakers, it all sounds the same.

I will say, however, that there are people that prefer the receiver to do the decoding instead of the PS3, but to each his own.

I have a BDPS350 hooked up to a STRDG820 in my store and the bitstreaming works perfectly.

In order to bitstream, there is an audio setting in the bd setup that has to be set to direct.

Yeah! It MUST be set to "direct" in order for it to stream.
