They are the same price and its for the bedroom. I already have a 60 gig ps3 in the living room. Not sure if I should get a standalone or ps3 and have the option of playing games too. What do you guys think? I am leanign towards the PS3 but still kinda want a standalone.

I voted for the stand alone because I prefer stand alone players but you can't go wrong with either.

I voted PS3 because if you use the media streaming options of the PS3 (like I do) you'll be able to stream video and music from your PC to your Bedroom PS3.

What are the other components of your setup in the bedroom?
As for the PS3 for example, I don't know if you can have the analog cable, with the stereo RCA ends, to run the audio but still have the HDMI to output image. Anyway, counting on the rest of your setup's ability to accept audio and video in an acceptable manner I'd say the PS3 is the best choice here. As I believe pretty much everyone is aware of already - the PS3 delivers! That, coupled with the possibility of playing games, and more specifically perhaps you'd like to play together or against someone like LAN, makes it a win here I'd say. Gotta go now but maybe I'll fill in with more thoughts later. Good luck anyways! / auricom |

Well in that case there are no, if there ever was, audial benefits to be had either with buying a stand alone player.

cmon this is a no brainer. you know that a PS3 can do what no other SA comes close to. MrE said it all. I went from an Elite BDP 95 to a PS3 and dont regret it a bit. The other bonus i found is the small footprint, can stand it on end try that with an SA. you can even hide it and the Bluetooth will find it, how cool is that.

If you don't care whether or not a SA is important, I would get the PS3 for its multifunctional use as MrE also stated.

If you don't care about SACD, PS2 compability or MGS4 you can go with the 40gig (or wait till Sept when gets an 80gig HD).

These two devices do not cost the same. The BDPS350 is readily available for around $350. The PS3 costs $50 more and you'll have to fork over another $25 or so for the remote.
For the bedroom... I'd say save the $75 and go with the standalone if watching movies is your primary concern. If you're single and play a lot of video games, then the PS3 would probably be worth the extra $$. |

Although you're forgetting that one can easily control the PS3 with the Sixaxis/Dual Shock 3 which comes in the box. So no extra expenses needed really. Also, unfavorably, the Sony PS3 Remote is butt ugly too, Logitech should get their hands on the case me thinks...

I've been using my PS3 for blus since it came out. It crashed about a month ago (wont read discs) and I don't have a warranty so I bought a stand alone player. I bought the Magnavox blu ray player and the picture quality is noticeably better than the PS3, audio is better to. While I agree PS3 is a great value cause it plays games, 2.0 profile, fast and all it simply wasn't made for watching movies and in my opinion is not as great of a player if your just gunna watch blus. I can only imagine the sony bdp is better than the magnovox so Id go with that!!

Quote:
future-proofing and the constant firmware updates, build-quality, reference blu-ray playability and a host of other not-so-obvious reasons make it an even easier choice.. Especially when talking another $50-$75 for a much more complete piece of home theater equipment.
