Er, what is your question? What is your setup? How are things connected?

Connect the two machines using an HDMI cable, then under the PS3's "BD/DVD Settings" menu, set "BD/DVD Audio Output Format (HDMI)" to "Bitstream". That should be all that is required.

Whoa....PS3 can't bitstream. You need to set it to LPCM in order for the PS3 to do the decoding otherwise the PS3 will only send out DD or DTS.

It can't? Oh great, I thought they implemented that using one of the recent updates. In that case, keep the setting to "Linear PCM", and then your Onkyo receiver will indeed say it's receiving a PCM signal.

No. It was confirmed by a user @ AVS who contacted the company that makes the HDMI chipset (transmitter, whatever you wanna call it) and the company said it's not capable of bitstreaming the HBR audio codecs.

So unfortunately it can't be implemented in an update because the hardware just isn't capable of it.

This is right. You should see "Multichannel PCM" on your Onkyo. Viola. You are now enjoying lossless for any and all movies that offer PCM, TrueHD, and DTS-HD-MA. Just make sure your PS3 has the most recent update if you picked it up recently.

A friends cousins moms sisters hair dresser talked with someone who said it can't happen. Thats what I think of when anyone other then Sony says it can't happen. If it happens then great, however I find it hard to believe that it's "not capable" of doing this because of the way the hardware was manufactored.
