Default Help!! PS3 not playing Blus!!!

Hi, Ive had my PS3 since about 6 months after they came out. It is just the 20gb model as I knew I was going to use it mostly for blus anyways. It has been working fine until now. It has frozen during various blu ray movies (to the point were Ive had to pretty much turn it off in back and then back on) and won't even recognize/play them sometimes. Ive read some other posts that said turn the network settings and the 1080p 24hz settings off which I did to no avail. Does any one else know what may be up, I don't have a warranty on it anymore, please help!!

You could buy a laser lens cleaning disc and try that. Maybe its dirty.

Do you dust your PS3 often?

Take a can of air and blast inside the disc slot.

i had the same problem with my old ps3. Something to do with the laser lense getting out of alignment... For a few weeks blu-rays would stop playing at random spots giving an Invaild disc error..then the ps3 wouldnt even reconize the discs.

Most likely you will need to have it repaired or get a new one. I was lucky and it was still under the 1 year warranty and they shipped me a free refurb...i know it sucks but you probably can get a refurb for $150 if you call customer support. The only other thing it could be is dust...so get some canned air and give that a shot first.

Unhappy

Blew some canned air in there and tried to clean lens but it wouldn't play the cleaning cd. Put in Blu and still freezes. I think I am screwed.

I mentioned in another thread that Blu-Ray players in general must be manufactured to a very precise spec. The laser must be extremely close to the disc to read it properly so it doesn't surprise me at all that it could easily fall out of alignment.

I just started experiencing this same problem.. Has anyone had any luck with a cleaning disc or blowing canned air in the disc slot? Is it safe to blow canned air in the disc slot? Any help is appreciated. I think I may need a new BD lens but am not too stoked about spending another $150..

Oh man this sounds like a nightmare!!! I truly feel bad for you, I hope that I don't encounter the same problem in the near future.

Just an update, it has been a couple of months now and my PS3 will not even read any type of discs anymore. I did a complete system restore, blew some canned air in there and even took it apart to clean the actual lens and nothing worked!! It turns on and you can go online and download/play games but that's it. I'm probably going to sell it AS IS on E Bay or something to get some kind of money back. The only reason im holding out is to wait for a new system update (anyone know when the next one is) cause I want to believe that there is a small chance everything will work after a new system update!

This is a common problem. Most common thing is, it stops playing BDs (movies & games). CDs and DVDs however, are still readable.

You can get the drive here: http://www.evolucion2000.com/playsta...al-blu-ray.htm

Here are some youtube videos on how to replace it:

It looks really easy, and if you are scared to open your PS3, just get the drive and take it to any place where they fix broken videogame consoles. In the same day you'll be playing again.
