Default Budget receiver for HD audio paired with PS3?

Hello
I was looking at spending around $300 to use on a receiver to pair with my PS3.
Can i get something like the sr505 and like the ps3 decode the DTS-HD and such?
Thank you very much.

The PS3 decodes all Blu-ray audio and outputs PCM over HDMI to any receiver with HDMI 1.1 that handles PCM. If you are sure you aren't going to want a receiver that will decode Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA, the Yamaha RX-V661 would be a good bargain choice. If later you get a player that bitstreams the advanced audio codecs, that receiver won't seem like such a good choice. It is really affordable now, having been replaced by the RX-V663.

Another choice I'm currently using for the kids is the
Sony STR-DG720. Selling @ SRP $299 but found for less.
Sounds great (I know about Yamaha's/Onkyo's out there)
but decent for the job.
Got it for $199 & free shipping through SonyStyle couple months ago.

either Yamaha 663 or Onkyo 606 or the new Pioneer 1018.
You really need to at least have a budget of say $450 roughly to get the first 2. The Pioneer is a bit more, but still a great budget option.
so maybe save a little more $$.
there are many hdmi 1.2a options that accept multichannel pcm over hdmi for less and will work fine for the most part, as others have pointed out, but I would recommend at least getting a 1.3 receiver myself unless budget concerns are so constrained that the extra $200 is not feasible.
also keep in mind that the more expensive options do in general tend to be better in many other areas also related to the overall sound you are going to get.

you can try an Onkyo TX-SR576, it will accept PCM over HDMI so if you will only be using it with a PS3 its a good choice but if you upgrade the player be sure to get one with internal decoding

I was excited when the Sony STR-DG720 came out and am very curious to hear if people like it or not. Seems like great bang for the buck.

Onkyo HT-SR705. A little over $500 if you're an Amazon Prime member.

He said he wanted to spend around $300, so this isn't a solution.

The TX-SR606 is the best deal if you're willing to raise your budget to around $380. Otherwise the sony mentioned or the 576 are fine choices.

I have to agree with this. I have a TX-SR576 and it's pretty nice. It's a very good value for the money.

Get the Onkyo 606. It decodes Dolby TrueHD and DTS Master Audio, accepts PCM over HDMI and is available for $389 on amazon. It's as close to a future proof receiver as you'll find in the budget range, and is WIDELY accepted as one of the best budget receivers on the Market.

Default A good choice too....

Marantz SR6001....in addition to my TX-sr576....I tested out a Marantz SR6001 that I got from Ubid. It too is one hell of an AVR. I'm feeding a FIOS box, Panasonic DMP-DB10A, and Toshiba HD-D3 into it and, so far I've been pleased....pleased enough to send the TX-SR576 back to amazon or off to my brother-in-law.....not that I don't like onkyo, but Marantz is Marantz.

You can get Denon 1908's for cheap right now. Amazon has them for $350. Just remember they are PCM only, which is fine for the PS3. And yes, the 1908 can add PLllx to PCM, nearly any source actually.

It will also pass a 1080p signal.

Alot of recievers that pass the PCM signal over hdmi will do fine. Read carefully though because not all will pass a 1080p picture through them.
