These fit the current budget. The player is 2.0, which is good, just curious on people's experience with either one.

I'd wait and get the BDP-S550 instead of the BDP-S350 with that receiver. The BDP-S350 will not decode dtsHD HR or dtsHD MA internally but the BDP-S550 will. Since the receiver doesn't do that (you have to step all the way up to the STR-DG920 to get that) you should get a BD player that will. Quite a few people here will say to get a PS3 which will do all of the decoding as well. If you would rather have a stand alone, then wait for the BDP-S550.

See, that's my dilema. I like Sony, obviously, I've never been a PS guy in any of the generations.

However, it's looking like the PS3 is still the best Blu-ray player on the market.

I was also eyeing this receiver...

Would you say this was better than the Sony one I listed?

The Sony STRDG820 does decode DTSHD ad TrueHD so that would be a proper upgrade for your choices. However, the Onkyo TXSR606 will sound considerably better for you.

I would go with the 606. I have a 705 and it's great.

In my opinion and experience, Sony's strong point is video. Their audio equipment just isn't really all that good.

You are right. When I was looking at the receivers I got the model numbers mixed up.

I don't know if the Onkyo is that much better (if at all). The OP should try to find them in the same store and check them out first hand. That is the only way to be sure.

Default Bought Them

Thanks for the information, guys. Just ordered them through CC online, thanks to corporate discount, and this is what I went with.

Picking them up tonight after work, then after my son's kindergarten orientation, go home, and hook them up.

Awesome, but you should have bought them from Best Buy *disclaimer, I work at BB*

I however got the Onkyo 605 (before I started working back at CC or BB).

That should still be a decent setup, if you don't like it, take it back, get something else!

I usually shop at Best Buy with my RewardsZone Mastercard (Shameless plug), but, the discount won out in this case.

Hells ya on the reward zone! Just about to hit Premier Silver (um, what is it now? August? almost! )

I must have made well over $300 from the RZMC over the 2 years I have had it.

Okay, so I finally got it all hooked up this weekend and decided to play around with it.

Two words: Holy fucking crap! (to steal from Denis Leary) Pirates: Curse of the Black Pearl looked and sounded amazing with the lossless track selected. Cranked it up during the scene where the Pearl is attacking Port Royal and also during the fight between the Interceptor and the Pearl. Just stunning.

The Fifth Element was fantastic, but I think the disc that completely sold me was Narnia: Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. The battle for Narnia scene is, without a doubt, one of the best picture quality and sound quality I have seen in any Hi-def format, and that includes the Optimus Prime/Bonecrusher fight in Transformers.

Anyone on the fence, if you're truly passionate about Hi-def movies, go to the BD side. It doesn't hurt. After this weekend, it feels pretty damn good, actually.
