Default Barcode Scanner for collection

Hey, i am thinking of getting a barcode scanner to catalog my bluray and HD collection into my computer. I have no experience with this, what is a good cheap barcode scanner that is compatible with pc's? (vista)

If you're using one of the cataloguing programs, I've used some in the past that would just let you plug in a digi camera & use that to scan 'em.

Not cheap, but here's one small one. http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/electronic/9197/

It scans 150 barcodes before you need to upload your scans to your computer.

That is pretty sweet (granted I still use DVDSpot). Does the program they show in the other screenshots for DVDs auto input the cast info and such? I have no clue about scanning barcodes for my collection. How much info is automatically pulled when one does this?

EASY SOLUTION:

1. Download DVD Profiler from www.invelos.com

2. Go to ebay and get an old CueCat that they gave away at Radio Shack.

3. Done.

Dunno. I don't own one myself. I would like one, but $299 is pretty steep.

This one's $149. http://www.intelliscanner.com/products/media/index.html

IntelliScanner Corporation makes organizing your media easy with Media Collector, the smart scanner and software solution to manage your entire media collection. By simply scanning the barcode on books, DVDs, CDs and games, Media Collector automatically identifies detailed product information to organize, sort, search and share your collection.

Just scan the barcode and the media software will automatically download details like the book title, movie review and even a picture of the item cover into a database – just like iTunes. Media Collector uses an Internet-enabled database and AutoFill technology to download the information you need. No need to type in the details, Media Collector does it for you!

Publish your collection online at IntelliScanner.net to share with friends or send it to your iPhone. Organizing your media collection has never been easier!

Everything you need to begin organizing is in one box, for your PC or Mac.
I might save up for one of these myself.

Exactly. This is the cheapest, simplest, best way to go about doing it. You have to drop like 30 bucks on the program and max 5 bucks on the CueCat. Both well worth it.

Just got a cuecat scanner on Amazon from "trade-up" for $3.49. Plugged it into the usb port on my Mac and I was ready to go. Downloaded Delicious Library and gave it a try. I loved the program so much I bought it. When you scan the barcode an image of the dvd case appears much like rematerialization in the Star Trek transporter and the little voice in the computer announces the title, director, and Blu-ray or HD DVD. It even scanned many of my imported discs. My Mac is set to the woman's voice but when I scanned Harry Potter the voice changed to an eerie sounding man's whispering voice. LOL I had to restart the program to get back to the woman's voice. I also scanned in my dvd players among other things. I haven't had this much fun with my clothes on for a long time!

Here is a fairly cheap one. Not as cheap as the cuecat though.

I've heard you have to get a MODIFIED CueCat. I just ordered one and am planning on using it with my copy of DVD Profiler. I'll keep you informed!

I used CueCat for awhile with DVD Profiler, but mine wasn't USB. You had to plug it into your PC's PS2 port and then plug the keyboard into the CueCat plug.

At the time, DVD Profiler didn't use the first and last number of the UPC, and the CueCat also was encrypted. You had to run a program in the background to decode and filter it (before hardware hacks).

Now Profiler accepts the entire barcode, so I don't know... I threw my CueCat away long ago.
