Default Sony BDP-S350 Xcross Media Bar Problem

As one of the new owners of 2 BDP-S350 Blu-ray players, I am having a problem trying to turn off the setup wizard, the Sony Xross Media Bar graphic interface.

When you hit HOME, the interface is supposed to turn on, but I cannot find a way to turn it off, except to start playing a disc. There is no information in the manual to disable the interface.

I called Sony and they told me to call back on Monday to speak with a product specialist. I emailed them twice and called once and have received nothing but bogus solutions.

Anyone else having this same problem and find a solution?

I guess I dont understand what exactly is the issue. The Media Bar is what the player outputs when it isnt playing a movie. This is normal. Were you expecting the screen to go black ? Perhaps I am not understanding what you are saying ?

Like most other Sony products, you can turn the graphical user interface (for making settings) ON or OFF. But I cannot find a way to turn it off.

So now the desktop pattern has a Setup Wizard always present. This is only necessary when you change factory settings.

Think of a Control Panel on your desktop with all the options open, and you can guess what the problem is!

You will have to post a pic but it just sounds like the standard media bar like on the PS3. Both of my newer Sony LCD's have it too. When the player isnt playing a movie it shows the media bar.

Now if you are saying that you are drilled down into the setup menu you can press the "return" button to bring you back to the top of the menu but the media bar will always be on when there is no movie being played.

So yeah... press return...its on the botton left of the circle of buttons.

I finally talked with someone at Sony who knew what he was talking about. The Xross Media Bar is designed to stay on permanently whenever you are not playing a disc.

This design is the same as the PS3 which is also always on.

My concern with this issue is that I use my player with a front projection system and it just looks tacky to be on the entire time, especially when I have friends over. The Sony desktop picture without the graphical user interface should be fine and you should have the option of turning it on or off, just like you do with my Sony TV or receiver.

Isn't that what the previous poster already said?
Of course the manual would have the easiest place to find the answer.

I don't know the practicalities of owning a projection system, but I don't understand why you'd have it powered up but not actually ... you know ... be watching anything

Surely if it's powered up, you are in preparation for watching something, and the XMB will only be displayed while you're deciding what to watch? (unless you're like I used to be, & spend 10+ minutes looking @ your films while you try and decide what to put on ... )

I agree, but I wanted to hear it directly from Sony--and I don't trust the way many manuals are written.

The manual doesnt state anything about being able to turn it off or anything stating that it always stays on. I thought it was a problem too. But then I hit PLAY & the disc started playing so obviously it's normal.
