Blu-ray Audio Question RE-ASKED

Can any1 help me..

Im using an old Yamaha dsp-a2 With Only Dolby Digital & dts decoders, My question is while playin on my via optical cable when a film has Dolbytrue HD & other HD sound formats which is best to play, The standard Dolby dolby digital track or the HD Audio playing via pcm on my amp ?

Many Thanks in advance

Rob

Sorry if confusing, with a disc u have diffent audio tracks, DD, Dolby HD e.t.c , my amp will only decode DD & Dts, when i play an hd soundtrack my amp decodes it as a pro logic surround.
Im Using an optical cable for sound output.
So is is better top play the DD outout or the HD audio via pro logic ?
Hope that makes sense better ????

Cheers

robbie

If I understand your question, you are asking about running analog out from your PS3 into your dsp-a2? What does PCM have to do with this? Does your receiver convert analog inputs to digital? If so, definitely go with optical over this. However, if your receiver has a pure-analog path, you are probably better of using the PS3 output.

There are some who say the lossless 2.0 PCM sounds fuller and worth the sacrifice of the discrete rear channels. When I had my PS3 hooked up via optical on my old non-HDMI Denon, I tried both and preferred the Dolby Digital option. If you want to hear a multichannel mix as intended, it's the way to go. The DTS-MA tracks will always sound great in their intended 5.1 splendor because you will get the 1.5MB core via your optical. It should definitely keep you happy until you decide to upgrade to an HDMI receiver. Hope this helped...

Absolutley go with the bitstream option for DD & DTS over the optical digital out. The only time I found it interesting to do otherwise was with LPCM soundtracks downmixed to 2 channel (but still at high resolution I believe), played with DDPL2x. Can be hard-hitting but you're still missing out on discrete multichannel. I went back to bitstreaming and preferred it as well.

I had the DSP-A1 and my solution to this problem was to replace the amp.

If you keep the amp, I'd personally bitstream the 5.1 mix. Try the PCM downmix, see what you prefer. They're your ears after all.
