Default Maybe We'll get it in 2.50 for the PS3

Is it really too much to ask of Sony to enable an Auto function on the PS3's audio menu, so that it automatically bitstreams DVD's Dolby Digital and DTS, and still internally decodes Blu Ray's True HD and DTS HD MA?

Having to go into the settings to switch everytime is annoying.

I mean heck, the Toshiba HD DVD players have an auto setting, but Sony can't figure it out????

I also want them to add upconversion on BD discs (store bought) for special features that are not in HD while also being able to pillarbox 4x3 material from the BD discs without having to change my TV settings. I know there are a few other things I want but I can't think of them off the top of my head right now.

Yeah, having an Auto button would really help, but from what I've read the PS3 is incapable of bitstreaming DTS-HD MA and Dolby TrueHD. It will never bitstream, which is pretty sad considering its such a fine piece of equipment. But why does it bitstream the core Dolby and DTS tracks and not the new ones? That beats me. It looks like Sony didn't think ahead by not developing the correct hardware capable of only decoding but not bitstreaming! D'oh!

I think the OP was talking about the option on bitstreaming standard DD and DTS, and then automatically have the PS start converting when the track switched to one of the HD codecs. And I agree it would be a wicked option. At least until I get my standalone.

I do wonder, right now I have no fan noise, but I know that some people do...everytime they add something are the chances there for the processor to do more work and possibly have the fan start to work harder?

The processor it uses is very impressive though, and there are plenty of alternative ways to cooling a system more efficiently than using a loud fan.
