Also, even though you are limited to the older "lossy" Dolby Digital and DTS codecs, it still is a higher bitrate than standard DVD.
Thanks. I'll file that away. Helps prioritize the upgrades.

Goodness, someone has a lot of disposable income - or has a high credit limit.

I have never used a credit card in my life.

And if you must know, the receiver is a gift to myself using my income tax money.

People get money back from their income tax? I'll have to try that sometime.

I not sure if the 705 allows post processing but the 805 which I have allows post processing of LPCM.
Sound techs spend weeks, sometimes months mastering movie soundtracks. Why on earth would you feel the need to add post-processing to them?

room acoustics? Also, they don't master those movies with your own speakers. On my onkyo 805 I always start out in pure audio mode, but usually have to slip into THX mode because it actually works wonders with my room setup... even better than audyssey does. It's all personal preference.

well I have a 7.1 setup and not all BDs are mastered at 7.1 so PIIx allows me to use all the speakers. Also I really like using the THX modes this receiver allows.

You one of those guys that don't like "black bars" either because you want the movie to fill up the entire screen since thats what you paid for?

I don't mind black bars but I do actually know someone who will zoom every widescreen dvd. Ooo, I just threw up a little. :-/

I don't see how myself wanting to utilize my 2 surround back speakers on 5.1 sources automatically makes me a guy who zooms widescreen titles but for the record I don't mind black bars and have always purchased DVDs and going all the way back to vhs in widescreen in fact I feel cheated if my movie is not in widescreen. Besides this thread is about the PS3 being able to decode the advance codecs and then sending it out as LPCM and I was just pointing out that the 605 he mentioned while it accepts LPCM it has limited capabilities overlaying sound modes such as PIIx for LPCM but not so for bitstreamed while the 805 allows you to do it for both bitstreamed audio and PCM. So you see I did get all that I paid for on both the 805 and now the PS3 which was only lacking DTS-MA decoding

the 705 will, but if there is a lossless track on the BD, then I stick with pure audio. Why process the sound on a track that is transparent to the Master?

Well my new Onkyo 805 arrived yesterday. I used to have a Yamaha HTR5990. It's a nice receiver except that the HDMI is ver. 1.1 and it has no onboard decoders for TrueHD or DTS-MA. I can't wait to upgrade my PS3 and finally watch my FOX titles with DTS-MA.
