god...what was it they said in that game....KO! This is a niccceee stride for Blu-ray. A reputable and stable brand (not some small foreign firm) and a price point that is very very easy on the eyes and as close to HD-DVD.

This one has full 1080p support so its should be compared to $800+ XA2 in stead of the current $499 model.

What benifits does this model have over the PS3.

You mean the HD-A20. It does 1080P output and retails for $599. It should be out this Spring.

No I meant the XA2 - never heard of A20 - by that time some other Blu-ray player could come out - this market is starting to move especially with price of players. Remember that the current Sony Blu-ray player is $999 ( 900 on amazon ) and now this one is coming.

They announced the A20 at CES. And will be between the A2 and XA2 in features. The XA2 is already selling for around $750 and the A2 is in the mid to upper $300's.
But for $500 for the new Sony BD player, I'll bet the PS3 will still be a much better deal. A few months ago I was adamant about not using a game machine as a movie player, but after using it and seeing how fast it is, I'm sure it will be a while until there is a player that is just as fast.

The A20 and the S300 will be comparable units at the same price. That's alright. I doubt Sony will compromise like Toshiba did and release a model without HDMI or one that doesn't output 1080p.

I'm interested to know if the S300 has HDMI 1.3 and if it outputs 1080p/24

Here's a link for VB....

Sony to deliver cheaper Blu-ray player

But no BD Live functionality with it? WTF? Better to go with the PS3 at $600 than this one.

TWICE article: http://www.twice.com/article/CA6419778.html

This player does have 1.3 HDMI, does support BD-J.

This is a fully-capable player besting the A20 at the same price.

I fully agree. This is nothing but positive news for the expansion of Blu-ray because its a price point thats much easier on the eyes and granted, there are people out there who are into Home Theatre and such, older folks ill say and they might just not get what the PS3 is or want to deal with it being more, they just want a Blu-ray machine but at a lower price.

$299 by Christmas? Sony's playing hardball.

I remember hearing a lot of hd-dvd boys saying they'll jump on when it's that low.

Guess we'll have more dual supporters come Christmas.
