Maybe in the 2nd gen Denon this will be true.
I'm a little surprised this player seems to not have SACD & DVD-A as Denon has been one of the best Universal player makers for some time now, but as mentioned above maybe in gen 2.
The price of this player does not seem to out of line to me as it fits in with typical Denon pricing. It's just hard to swallow when all the other blu-ray players can now be had for what $999 or less, most of which are $599 or less. -

$2,000.
The war is going to be over and they will sell 1.0 % of the player for sure.
Why...... So......Serious?

Pioneer was smart to price their first player at $1800 because a couple hundred more and now you have "$2000!"
The PE player sold well, why not this Denon player with more features? -

Denon stuff is fabulous. In my main viewing room I have the denon dvd-2930ci hooked to an AVR-3806 receiver. Looks and sounds phenomenal. I also have a seperate setup in my house where I have the HD-A2 for hd-dvd and the new Panasonic blu-ray player hooked up. Neither player can match the pq on standard dvd of my denon setup. 2000 is a chunk of change and you get what you pay for. The quality of the dvd player and amp I have are incredible... Build quality and quality of the components they put inside the devices.
I am tempted myself to figure out how to sell of some of my equipment to afford the denon blu-ray player. -

Another note: Sound on the new systems. The 2k model will have decoders for every sound format old and new. So it has them all covered. The lower end model will have no decoders at all. Denon has listed it as a blu ray transport. So it will recognize and output through hdmi 1.3 all the next gen or current gen audio as bitsream. So you will spend less on the blu ray player but you will need to pair it with a receiver with hdmi 1.3 and has the decoders built into the receiver.

I noticed in the picture in the Crave article that there are 8 (7.1) analog outputs on the back of the unit. This would mean that it will process the hi-def codecs internally and pump them into any receiver that has 8 analog inputs. So you don't need a receiver that will decode the bitstream to get truehd or dtsma. You just need a reciever with matching analog inputs and you bypass the decoder and dac in the receiver completely.
I know everyone is into having an all digital pipeline -- the hdmi connection to the receiver, and then hdmi from receiver to monitor. But, I like those analogs there just in case.
Do other bd players typically have all 8 analog audio outs like this one? -
