I believe you will find that this player provides the same level of blu-ray pq as the other Sony players in this series (ie. the 370, 570 & 770). I also expect you will find it basically indistinguishable from other blu-ray players across a fairly wide price range.
I would, however, encourage you to consider the S570/BX57 in order to have on-board wi-fi (no Sony adapter necessary - which are grossly overpriced) and 3D capabilities (in case it catches on and you decide to partake someday in the future). The BX57 is $150 at Costco and even a few dollars less at Sam's Club right now. And I believe it has 1gb BD-Live memory provided and a HDMI cable included in the box. My step-daughter has had a 570 for a while and likes it. I just ordered a BX57 for my daughter as a Christmas present.

I just hooked up my 370 and so far I have no complaints about picture quality.

I have the Sony S570 and it works magnificently! To be blasphemous though, i hooked it up in my mother's living room to a Sylvania SDTV so i could enjoy Blu-rays (still at 30 MBPS ), Superbits, and most importantly, internet content on a component input LCD/Tube SDTV! Which looks great! The only issue is the Sony-bred 3 click process to re-start a disc or Netflix Wi Fi presentation which can take up to 20 seconds to get going again. Yet for 2010, it is everything i could hope for in a Disc player + 3D & Wi Fi.
