I am not sure I understand the reason this problem is so common but I can say now that I have seen this first hand and read about this problem with Samsung and LG players at AVSForums a number of times. I have a Samsung BD-P2550, the player immediately preceding the BD-P3600 that does this and had an LG BD300 that had the same issue. I returned the BD300 to LG and it was repaired under warranty maybe 8 months ago and I haven't seen the problem return yet. The BD-P2550 was a customer return to Best Buy and I don't think I can get a warranty repair on it. The thread on the BD-P2550 has some posts by forum member JAMTUFF of a fix by adjusting the laser assembly and he has some information about how to accomplish this and indicates he has not seen the problem return in 6 months after the fix.

I don't own the BD-P3600 but have read the same problem is prevalent, you aren't alone. I will beat others to the punch by first stating the way to avoid the problem is to avoid Samsung Blu-ray players and possibly LG Blu-ray players. I think the simple answer as to the cause is a defective drive or defective laser assembly or defective design. I do not believe this issue is related to Samsung firmware problems which are the common cause of most other problems with Samsung players. I also don't believe the Broadcom chip used by all of these players is the source of the issue.

If I can get better instructions on how to proceed, I am going to try to fix my BD-P2550. I took the cover off my player yesterday and couldn't figure out exactly what to do but it is sitting on the dining room table awaiting a plan of attack.

I fully agree with Chris' post above, I would steer clear from Samsung and LG BD players all together.
    Just too many problems.
