Is this a good movie? I never heard of it before I read a press release about it not so long ago.

Was stoked to see it after years and years of cult film adulation. And really, what's not to love, right? It's got damn near everyone that ever worked with James Cameron, including the inimitable Bill Paxton, all directed by the director of possibly THE most underrated film of all time (STRANGE DAYS)...so imagine my surprise when it all added up to one big, overrated "meh". I actually had to force myself to finish it off...I was dialing out bad by the last half hour. My vote: don't believe the hype--rent it first. That said, for $10, if you didn't like it, you could probably sell it for most of what you spent on it and only be out the cost of a rental fee...

I have had the DVD for years and in my opinion it is a great film. I first saw it about 20 years ago, and it was very original but so many films that followed are similar so it has lost its edge as a result. I don't plan to pick up the Blu-ray, even for $10 since the DVD is worthless and I try to just live the DVD when this happens. If I had known waiting would have been a smart move because something so much better than DVD is coming, I wouldn't own so many DVD's instead of Blu-ray versions. A Blu-ray disc at $10 is such an amazing deal, I have no idea why most eveybody with an HDTV don't have a player.

With the digital switch, it's not the hardware that's the problem but the software. Many people cannot justify spending $20-30+ on a new release, especially during this recession. It's a shame really, because if more BD's were released in the $10-15 range (sweet spot IMO), I'd wager there be far greater sales (just look at the recent threads on this forum as an example)...which would lead to more studios investing in this high resolution format. And therein lies the problem, folks...corporate greed and profits stand in the way of mainstream adoption of this wonderful format.

I haven't watched this yet but for $10, I'm more likely to give it a try.

One of the best vampire movies out there. Good story line plus for $10, you can't beat that price.

Was tempted to grab this today, but somehow the new cover just pissed me off. Like it's trying really hard to get fans of Twilight to take a look at this. Sounds stupid I know, but I couldn't buy it. Next time.

Yes, that was intentional. More fans = more $$. Of course, you can also look at the similar cover design as their way of saying Near Dark came first, long before Twilight. Not a big deal for me although if it was really bothersome, this would be a good reason to make your own custom cover. Will pick it up if my WM has any on my next visit, but I won't go out of my way (too much).

But how awesome is it to think that some tween might pick this up hoping for a Twilight type movie, and get a bad ass vampire movie. That makes the cover worth it.

just picked up a copy at my local Wal-Mart. Love the movie...HATE the silly Twilight front cover. This movie is so much better than that teeny-bopper crap.
