Wouldn't that make netflix a monopoly? Are they still doing that misleading scoring method of punishing frequent renters? I was burned by them a few times and ditched them as well. I might give them a try again but if they are the only choice for renting they can control price.

Where I live they were doomed by the $1 DVD rental vending machines. Even in the same shopping center, Blockbuster had competition from vending machines. Last week I read in the business pages that Blockbuster was getting involved in vending machines. A little bit late for that, don't you think?

I still use Blockbuster and have always been happy with the selection and service. I have seen a number of complaints like these and I haven't read one yet that makes any sense to me. It is so simple to not go into Blockbuster. How in the world can anybody be unhappy with a store and want it to close and have employees lose their jobs? When I have asked for an explanation of the alleged wrongdoings or how Blockbuster ever stole money, I never get an answer that rings true so I no longer bother to ask.

I also use the Blockbuster Online service, 2 Blu-ray rentals per month at $4 per month and Netflix doesn't offer a plan to compete.

I don't get it when people are happy companies go out of business. My wife has been unemployed for a year, its not fun. So don't tell me you want to see anyone loose their job. Do you realize thousands of people will loose their jobs?? Guess you guys are all still working.

Good for you.

At some point, more than 5 or 6 years ago, a lot of the people happy to see Blockbuster go under had to pay a $5 late fee on a movie. They are somehow still bitter.

Blockbuster didn't just appear out of the air. Before BB there were independently owned stores with EMPLOYEEs who were without jobs when a BB opened in their area. Sometimes a BB would open directly across the street from an existing store, as I saw in my town. My local independent store had to close after 20 years, laying off several long time employees. I have a friend who manages a BB and she told me months ago the end was coming. She said BB had made poor business decisions like ignoring the vending machines in the neighboring supermarkets. She was also overworked and underpaid. Forced to work extra hours for no pay if a quota was not met in a 40 hour work week. Ask any BB employee if they felt they were exploited or not.

Only problem in no your friend will be unemployed, I'll take overworked over unemployment any day. Regardless of how they got there there will be thousands without a job. While the job may have shifted from one side of the street to the other now it's unemployment. Blockbuster may have deserved this but it's the trickle down effect.

I checked this "going out business sale" yesterday and it was ridiculous.
People are buying used DVDs for $14.99 minus 10% off. You could buy 4 of the same used DVDs for 20$ during their normal used DVD sales.
Most of them you can buy new at $9.99 from BB, Walmart, or Fry's.

Used Blu-rays for $16.99 are still 10% off. They had them for 2 for $25 before the "going out of business sale".

I'm glad they are going out of business. Man, what a rip-off! $14.99 for a used dvd? I can get up to 3 used dvds at amazon for the same price shipped.

I'm beginning to wonder if their Blockbuster by Mail biz is going out of business. They acknowledged my disc returns on Tuesday & Thursday, and still haven't processed any replacements. Emailed support yesterday asking what was going on, no reply.

Why are you guys (not singling you out juio) hating on Blockbuster so much? Hollywood Video isn't any better. And for all of you that pine for the good ole days of independents, I guess you forgot about their outrageous prices and late fees (my experience anyway).

all the blockbusters by me are staying open, so no deals for me. the only thing i'm interested in however, is if anyone can find the bourne ultimatum (the newest bourne) for sale at a BB that's closing, if so, i would appreciate it if you could let me know how much they want for it. i'm willing to pay $20 shipped for it and no more.

With all of the businesses closing up shop, I've come to learn that these going out of business sales are just rip offs, and there are people that think they're getting deals. Prices are jacked up and then put on sale. I was at a local BB a day or two before they closed up and the prices were as described above.

Why are so many making it sound like Blockbuster is going out of business completely? Blockbuster is closing many of its stores, but not all of them.
