^ You.Will.Love.It.

it's pure GENIUS (on everything: story, writing, directing, production, casting, etc).

chris, not necessarily. i personally think one should have read the book. arthur c. clarke worked with kubrick TOGETHER to create the 2001 story. the book AND script were both written simultaneously!

^ well to be honest, after my first viewing of 2001, i did go ahead and read a bunch of sites/articles for more information (or trying to since there's no REAL-FINALIZE description of the truth of the monolith) and a whole new world opened up in front of my eyes...then i saw it again and again and it got EVEN better

plus, it's a PERFECT high def transfer! so that helps!

Thanks OP, picked this up last night with The Shining on Blu for a little over $25 w/ free super saver shipping.

2001 shows as 2-3 day wait before shipping (scratch that, just checked and it is up to 1 to 3 weeks).

I've seen this movie and think it's great Scifi, but the movie is slow and cerebral. I don't think I'd be watching it all that often to make it worth buying.

It's still $11.48 more than I'm willing to pay for it. The only thing this movie ever did for me was put me to sleep. On second thought, considering my current insomnia, maybe I should buy it...
