Yes and no. Dexter isn't a bad guy. While it is true he's breaking the law in his expedition for true justice, he is doing it for a good cause. When the law fails to protect us, you break it in order that harmony and peace be brought about. Sometimes the end does justify the means.

But this is why it's a discussion... He's NOT doing it because it's a good cause. He's NOT doing it because he feels he's bringing justice. In the end, he's doing it simply because his step father told him it's what he needs to do. The only reason he kills is for pleasure, that 'need', or 'hunger' to kill. His 'dark passenger'. But the 'code' set by Harry is the reason that it perhaps sits in somewhat of a moral grey area; He only kills those who have killed others.
