They just want the cover art. The box would add shipping cost which they obviously want to keep down. That's why they want the paper backing for the Matrix set.

Edit:

Plus I think they're hoping most threw that piece away with the Matrix set.

Yea, Charlie And The Chocolate Factory is missing as well.

I've got 26 WB titles and they only allow 25 to switch out, so I have to scratch one anyways, but still curious.

Awesome idea and makes the switch to Blu a little less painful.

It's missing because the Blu-ray *still* hasn't been pressed/released yet.

Save your proverbial breath with this one. As you can see from most of his posts, he just likes to argue. If he had any sense, he would see that if you are a owner and would like a from the list, you simply buy the movie for cheap on then trade it in for . Buuuuuuuuuuuuut, he is a flaming idiot, obviously, who just likes to make himself feel important, when in fact he just removes all doubt of his intelligence, or lack thereof, with almost every post. The very fact that he has in his sig and then wants to rebuke the validity of this thread is mind-boggling at the very least. I've endured enough of him for one day. I gotta go get my ready to send off.

And since most people who this would benefit have already switched to Blu, they probably don't look in the HD DVD bargain section anymore.

Bargain for cheap Blu-rays, what don't you get?

It was your condescending tone in your reply that most object to.

If they've already switched completely to Blu, why would they have any HD DVD discs to trade in?

A Blu-ray trade-in program for HD DVD owners is 'Cheap Blu-rays'? I think that's a pretty huge over simplification, but whatever floats your boat.

Any condescending tone you detected exists only in your mind and in your own posts.

Now, I'd be happy to take my leave of this thread and, as far as I'd seen it, had already done so earlier. But are you and signal going to keep dragging me back in with flame-bait posts?

It's up to you. I asked a simple question. And you guys sure seem to like providing multi-page answers.
I for one am glad it was posted in the Blu-Ray Bargains section. I own about 300+ blus and about 70 HD-DVDS. Because i no longer actively buy HD-DVDS, i never check those forums, as i own every HD-DVD i want. Im totally going to trade in all my HD-DVDS for the Blu versions , if only because id like to have one player and one format, not two. Also, because you are effectively GETTING blu's it is totally relevant to the discussion. Although, not an attack, i find it odd that since you dont own BD, why are you browsing the BD bargain forum anyway, and then trying to police it?

Hello,

I am a LONG TIME lurker and this is my first post.
Just wanted to pass along some info I got from calling about this offer.

1. I confirmed that for The Ultimate Matrix set they only need the paper that was glued to the back. No other artwork from any of the discs is needed. She did say they were trying to work out something for those who did throw that seemingly irrelevant piece away, but had no details at this time.

2. She suggested to me that for the more popular titles you may want to act quickly, more or less stating supplies will be limited. So for titles like The Matrix set and other box sets you guys may want to get those orders in soon.

3. I asked her if the Casablanca set will be shipped with all the "goodies". She was not 100% sure. She thought it would be just the disc itself however.
That somewhat makes sense b/c the box set when opened it has a standard blu ray case in it. Or at least I thought it did. But since it was only made available in a box set it makes me wonder do they just have a bunch of the discs laying around??? I suppose this is a wait and see situation.

This was some great news for any of us early adopters who had both formats, I think we will all agree that early adopters for the most part get screwed. Nice of WB to do this.

With all due respect, there is nothing "crooked" about any of it, and I fully support this idea.

I purchased a brand new copy of Planet Earth from Futureshop in their blowout sales for $ 12.50 and a brand new Ultimate Matrix for $35 (just to name 2 titles) nearly a year ago !!!. I am a legitimate owner of these titles.

I also picked up a ton of new/sealed Warner HD DVD titles in the last year (as well as the last few weeks) for literally peanuts of what their original MSRP's were and these "blowout" deals still continue at many outlets which are known to everyone here.

Warner is now offering "legitimate owners" of their titles a trade in program. Its obvious the goal of this program in to cultivate a new customer base for a product line that may or may not be doing all that well yet (from the Studio's standpoint) in order to generate mass interest and hopefully help the Bluray category reach a "critical mass" point, because unless it does, no one will ever turn REAL profits on new disc sales.

This is business choice that Warner has made. The fact that the new/sealed "tradeable" titles in question can now be had for pennies on the dollar is irrelevent, and there is NOTHING crooked about thinking outside the box in order to save some $$. Maybe someone was one of those "I had to have it right away!" types and paid $ 119.95 for Ultimate Matrix when it first came out. Now you can get them for $ 19.95 or so. So what...That is just an example of simple economics 101 and a lesson in "What the market will bare"...Thats life!

Hell, from Warner's standpoint, they would probably be just as happy if you were to send some old parking tickets and some pieces of yarn in the return envelope as they are motivated to MOVE INVENTORY and get a new group of people starting to buy into BLURAY.

Oh, the other thing that no one has mentioned yet....Everyone who takes part in the program will also receive a $15 off coupon for any ADDITIONAL BD purchases over $ 50 made from the Warner Online Shop prior to the end of December 2009.

Its all about business and keeping their products flowing into the next Xmas season.

There is nothing crooked about it.

Just a heads up for those who were wondering about the Complete Matrix Trilogy vs The Ultimate Matrix Collection. I just got off the phone with a very pleasant rep who said the official memo she received (because they've been getting this question all day) says this:

1. Both the CT and UC are eligible for the trade. For CT folks, this is a free upgrade to the UC.

2. If like most people here, you lost that little paper that was stuck on the side you're not out of luck. Simply send the cover art for ALL THREE movies, as they have UPC codes, which provides sufficient proof of purchase.

Warner is awesome.

I spoke with a nice woman named Maurine when I just called and got clarification on something I've seen discussed in different forums

-Oceans 11/12/13: They only want the slip cover that goes over the cardboard, not the cardboard holder... this is because the slip is what has the UPC.
-They have got MANY complaints about the paper for the Ultimate Matrix trilogy and have forwarded the concerns to management (I for one love how it is right now, because I can finally get rid of that paper and leave my whole set in tact, but i understand how folks aren't happy if they scraped it long ago)

So far, i'm pretty pumped about this. Looking to replace my box sets and a few HD's (Batman Begins, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and a couple other combo discs)

/I posted this in the HDDVD thread too, but figured it wouldn't hurt to share here also

I can say it is not immediately, at least not for me anyway. I ordered around 5 (maybe a bit earlier) CST and it has not shown on my online banking yet.
