From DVDCompare.net --
The Discovery Channel - "US broadcast version" (480 min), which is:
-Re-sequencing the series' 11 episodes.
-Adding a new main music theme.
-Replacing David Attenborough's narration with actress Sigourney Weaver.
-Excised roughly 6-7 minutes of material out of each episode to allow for commercial interruptions.
-1080i vs. 1080p for the non-Discovery version (although the show may have been shot it 1080i)
-comixDisplay: Epson HC 6100 Proj/106" Da-Lite High Power screen or Panasonic 50" Plasma
Receiver & Speakers : Yamaha AVR HTR-5940 / Boston Acoustic LCR DSi495 & Rears DSi455 (In-Ceiling)
Sources: Toshiba HD-A3 (86 titles), Panasonic BD655AK (240 titles), Sage TV HD HTPC (8TB), Comcast w/crappy HD, SD-DVD ~950

Why wasn't the BBC version released with the Sigourney Weaver narration as a separate track? Was it due to contractual obligations or something?
That and the1 hour making of, would have made the set perfect. Now it isn't because I know all of this LOL D:

I ordered this because I prefer Sigourney as the narrator, and the price is unbeatable. (I also have the HD DVD version.) Does anyone know what type of packaging the Discovery version has for this? Is it similar to the BBC version?

WOW. You're the only person I've ever heard say this. How could you not prefer the british lilt of Attenborough? He has been THE voice of british nature documentary programming for 50 years. Sigourney Weaver is ok, but she's no Attenborough.
That, and the fact that the episodes are all edited shorter means I'll never buy this version.Panasonic Viera TH-50PZ80U 50" Plasma *new*

I don't dislike Attenborough, but when I first caught this on TV, it was Sigourney I heard -- and I fell in love with the program and her narration. For Blue Planet: Seas of Life, however, no one could take the place of Attenborough! Just personal preference, I guess.
