As much as this sucks, it will save me time... I ordered an Onkyo 606 about 20 days ago and have had 15 price adjustments...

I've even joked with the reps about never calling in for low amounts and most would say I wouldn't believe the number of people that do. I remember on this site, someone called several times to secure a $1 refund for a BD movie. I just don't think $1 is worth all that effort and it probably isn't for Amazon.com either.
That would never work. Amazon already sells their stuff far below stores like best buy. They're probably simply losing too much money offering refunds several weeks and in some cases months after the original purchase. If only a small amount of people take advantage of this it's not a big deal. If it's an easy automated system.. forget about it.

I mean when Amazon nocks a title off 40-50% for a few day share they'd then have to take int account of the thousands of people that bougth the item already and will now demand refunds.

It was great while it lasted but i don't think it's really fair to demand and expect it.

Every time i got a few dollars back i loved it but i never thought it was a right i should demand and it won't stop me from shopping at amazon in the future.

no tax, free shipping, usually the best prices. That's enough to make me shop there.

I agree, and know why they would never make it so easy because it would encourage people to do it. I pretty much agree with you and rarely called/emailed for a refund, it had to be a good amount.

They system is already somewhat automated when you make the request online vs calling.

The biggest problem is people taking advantage of amazon in the fallowing example.

Two Blu-rays sell for $25.00 each. B1g1 sale. So $15.00 each. Then the movies are priced at $19.00 each after the sale is over and people request a $6 refund per movie and in some cases get it only paying $9 per title.

Amazon would often give me refunds much further than 30 days but it was very ficle. Today i tried and i bought two movies of the same movies 2 months ago as presents. They were like $3 cheaper and i requested the refund on both. One e-mail came back and said ok we refunde you $3. Anothe e-mail said no it's been longer than 30 days despite the fact that they were the same item ordered on the same day just two different oreders.

It's not automated, every customer request requires live rep interaction who evaluate the request and manually calculate it. And then they just issue a refund request, which goes to the billing dept for the adjustment. When you involve live reps it creates an issue of resource utilization. I am sure abuse is a factor, but support and credit card factors are there too.

Agree with you for the most part...until that last sentence:
>tax for us in NY
>free shipping only sometimes on certain items
>no longer the best prices, esp. large electronics (AVR's, FP HDTV's, etc) & BD's

I recently ordered the Samsung LN46A650, and the next day it dropped $60. i took advantage of their Post-order Guarantee. This was a major factor in me buying my HDTV from them. For me this is a big blow from Amazon. I don't like that they are doing this. I was on the fence on buying an Onkyo 606, but I don't think I will buy this now.

If amazon stops the ny tax, they will get me back to them. But I really am just going to curb my blu ray buying or simply buy used from this forum. I buy way too many titles on a weekly basis and while money isnt much of an issue for me, I still would like to save a dollar or two where I can.

I'd like to say tough shit, I have to pay tax from Amazon too but yours is 10% while mine is only 7.525% or something like that. You really get hosed.
I don't blame you for trying to avoid tax online. Have you tried the zShops or do you get taxed on that too?

This policy will just make it so I don't buy any more blu's on new release day. I will wait until they get cut in price before I buy, or become part of a buy 2 get 1 free, or are available from a 3rd party for much less. Now that I have Netflix I'm much more careful about what I buy anyway, so Amazon is just making it so I save even more money. Thanks!

Very disappointed about this. My prime ends in late December so at this point, I won't renew it. We'll see how this affects their business these last few months of the year.

I think sthey have gotten hosed on the Prime deal too, I can see that ending next. (which when they do we can all say I told you so to the people who sold shares of their prime!)

Well this blows. Mainly because I got quite a bit of dough back last X-mas on the price drops of the HD players I bought. Now Amazon is just turning into another online store, if they start raising their prices too, I guess I'm going back to shopping at Best Buy again.
