Default Samsung 1400 now $269.98 at Amazon

Just posted:

Quote:
Setting a record for most consecutive price drops in a space of a week, several retailers have cut their prices on Samsung's BD-P1400 player well below this weekend's already record breaking price drops.

As we first reported Sunday, several retailers snipped as much as $100 off their price tags for the player, offering it a then-record low of $299.

Now at least two national retailers have dropped prices even further. Yesterday we reported that Costco had dropped its price to $279.99, and today Amazon cut its price to just $269.98 -- that's a whopping 46% off the player's original suggested retail price.

Although HD DVD has long held the low-price advantage over Blu-ray, Samsung's BD-P1400 player is now within $70 of Amazon's lowest-priced HD DVD player (Toshiba's 1080i HD-A3 HD DVD player, which the retailer is currently selling at 33% off list at $199.98).

How low will Blu-ray player prices go as we enter the heat of the holiday shopping season? Stay tuned...

Wow... First you're not safe early adopting, now you're not safe jumping on a good deal right away! lol... I can only guess this is a fire sale to get rid of 1.0 players? I wonder if this will ultimitly affect the minimal cost of entry for BD permenently or if this is just till 1.0 players are gone, then prices back up to $400.

Anyway, I'm not sorry I got my player when I did... Already have a good start on the BD exclusives I was interested in. I have to give purchasing a rest now for a while :P

Blu-ray was released with BD-J (java software developed for Blu-ray) with release version 1.0. It is fairly basic and does not allow for PIP or Online support for bonus materials...

As of October 31, all NEW Blu-ray models had to come with BD-J 1.1 (dubbed full), which adds PIP, but lacks online support

BD-J 2.0 will be released at a later date and enable online support, but will not be mandatory for players

2.0 is the level where blu-ray will be able to do at least as much as HD DVD players can do now with HDi (Microsoft's software)...

No 1.0 player is believed to be able to go to 1.1 because of hardware limitations... the exception is the PS3... it has more than enough hardware to meet the 1.1 and 2.0 spec...

hope that helps... also search this site, Josh Zyber has written an article that gets more in depth...
