You get the normal 5 free discs from the BDA, plus 2 select Warner titles from Samsung/In Store. Samsung will also throw in the first disc in the Planet Earth series."
The PDF says that it must be purchased "by 11/30/07", but the web page says "between October 1 and December 31, 2007". What gives?

Edit: PDF also says "between October 1 and Novermber 30, 2007".

I bought into this deal, the only player specific complaint I have is that the BD drive seems to be touch noisy... Only peice of hardware with a louder drive in my HT set up is my 360, and that only gets the node because the noise is more consitant. Other than that, the only other complaints I have are format specific, not player specific. I'd say it's worth it to not miss out on any HDM. I have heard some stories of disc compatibility issues, but I'm also hearing that updating your firmware should take care of those issues.

But it definitely lowers the price of starting a Blu-ray collection if you're waiting for an excuse.

When I got my HD DVD player, it came with 10 free movies, which works out to $20 each.

This player comes with 7 movies; that's $42.85 per movie.

Certain (but not all) Blu-ray movies are periodically $10 in bulk, but $300 is a lot to make up for at that rate.

And again, no PIP, so no deal for me, but others might bite and go purple.

Hopefully this will spur the competing Blu-ray manufacturer(s) to lower their prices, and the consumers will benefit.

Dual format will eventually be the way to go in the long run.
I'm sure if it were 1.1 most people here would say, "It's not 2.0! Why would I want this obsolete player?"

If you think dual format is the way of the future then you haven't been reading anything lately. It's odd how you're looking for a way to divide the cost of the player into the free movies. Whats that about?

Wrong. 2.0 is only Internet connectivity. That's not as big of a deal to me as being able to play special features that are encoded on the disc itself like PIP.

I'm sure some idiots will still try to bash but overall 1.1 players will be the biggest breakthrough for Blu-ray as far as I'm concerned. Everything thus far outside of the PS3 has been obsolete and overpriced.

This is only the leading edge of the Profile 1.0 player clearance. Standalone Blu-ray players have sold very poorly due to the PS3's dominance. Every Profile 1.0 player manufactured is now the retail version of a hot potato.

Manufacturers are going to want them off the supply chain.

Wait. Prices will only go down.

Yeah, at $279 it's very tempting although I'd prefer the new Panny (but $420+ is too pricey). I don't think anyone other than Warner is going to be switching (well, picking in Warner's case) sides anytime soon so for $279 to get access to the Blu HDM seems reasonable. Is the noise constant or only when loading and/or spinning up? Thanks again.

Kinda like an A2. Lets face it Sony and Samsung are going to rush to clear out 1.0 players to make way for the 1.1 in very much the same way Wal-Mart decided to blow hrough A2s to make way for A3s.

Noise is only apparent durring inital load, and occationally when jumping chapters... I can only surmise that there must be some brief rapid acceleration of the disc durring these times. Over all it's not horribly distracting, but you'll notice it.
