Default Samsung BD-P1400 Blu-ray Player: $339.99 at Amazon

Just posted:

Quote:
Amazon has dropped its price for Samsung's BD-P1400 Blu-ray Player to $339.99, setting a new low price record for a Blu-ray Player.

At press time it wasn't clear whether the price drop was permanent or part of a Thanksgiving week special, but it is the lowest price we've seen yet for any Blu-ray player.

As we've previously reported, a recent firmware upgrade issued by Samsung for its 1400 player made it the first Blu-ray player to unlock DTS-HD Master Audio.

For complete details, visit the Samsung BD-P1400 product page on Amazon.com.

Wow. Considering the near equivalent HD-DVD player is the A-35 , going for $399.98 on amazon. The Samsung player is an exceptionally good deal.

It's not the lowest, though maybe the most accessible. This week has seen the Sony S301 at BJs listing for $279. Front of store displays as well with all the HDTVs lined up there with them hooked up. It was quite surprising.

How is that smackdown material? Well, it is... but it's also a warning to those who see this and don't know otherwise. They won't get to use the features on the newly announced 1.1 discs. Seems like it could be a deal breaker to some.

Besides, as of November 1, don't all players need to meet 1.1 spec? Sounds like a fire...

well their gradually getting closer to the far cheaper HD DVD player prices which are bellow £100! Im still not seeing any huge insentive to go BD instead of HD if they cant get the prices down to a realisticly competative price.

Amazon offers far cheaper HD DVD players with special deals to get several free films, I dont see how it can compete yet. But keep the prices falling.

Yeah, let's drop the price of an obsolete profile 1.0 player that is still much more expensive than a full-spec HD DVD player and see what happens. I'll tell you what will happen, it will sell a few more players but will still be a huge disappointment.

No, only newly announced players. All previous profile 1.0 players can be sold indefinitely.

This isn't smackdown, but IMO 1080P and no PIP is more crucial than 1080i and PIP with the A2/A3.

Sounds nothing more like a threadcrap and panic setting in that Blu player prices are going down.

There isn't a single PIP title yet available for Blu-ray, so were's the dissapointment?

1080P and DTS HD decoding is far more important than the feature rich, but still 1080i, A2/A3.

Using words like obsolete is neither correct nor particularly helpful for newcomers.
