B&N has always done this. Nothing new. If you don't like it, don't shop there.... it's usually the reason I personally don't shop there myself. Except for the Criterion sale or when I'm bored and just browsing and see something I really want that night.
Like someone else said, if they don't adjust they will go the way that Borders did. Here's my entire movie collection - http://www.icollectmedia.com/collection/ethanwa/ -

So...seriously...where the heck are the online coupon codes. Going to the store to use coupons or even to get member discounts is neither economic nor a good use of time for me.

This weekend I ended up making a trip that put me near two of my closest B&N stores (~65 miles from home).
So, I purchased the 16 remaining titles I needed to catch back up with releases. Since it was cost effective in this instance, I had them renew my membership (I did the free trial last year). Now I'm covered for the next sale (one this fall?) and hopefully next year's as well (knock on wood?)...
In fact I bought so many I accidentally got two on DVD by mistake...I returned the DVDs the next day (14 day return policy...WTF) and tried taking in some member coupons I found online to see if I could save any more. The coupons online were all for "new" memberships only, so technically since I had them do a renewal I couldn't have used them -- but I thought I'd try anyway. I tried the $8 off a $40+ item using Samurai Trilogy but they turned me down saying the item had to be $40+ after discounts. I only really needed two titles so I couldn't try the $5 off $50 either without returning some of the others I'd already bought and I didn't want to mess with that.
But man, even their member in-store coupons apparently sucked this time.Pan 65" Plasma TC-P65V10 / Onk 7.1 TX-SR607 / Onk DV-HD805 / Pan DMP-BD60 / Tosh XD-E500

Of course YMMV. In Saint Louis, mo I have around 8 B&N's. Some within just minutes of each other How they all stay open is a mystery; maybe they all do seem to cater to a different type of person though, I.E. artsy, historical, horror films, classic novels, accessories, etc. They all have a very different selection. I was looking for Traffic and yesterday being the last day they were all sold out but after three different Best Buy stores, manager approval having two premier silver accounts, three RZ credit cards, and a BB store branded credit card I finally found one which price matched it.
The quote, "Hindsight s like foresight without a future." - Kevin Kline from "Life As A House" would have been good advice as I could have saved time, gas, and frustration trying to get one of the most common titles ever, simply by calling from my home or car but oh well at least I have it. -

Anyone else on here buy some of the titles and then go back and buy more BEFORE their next payday?
I did, had to pick up 7 on the last day of the sale could not resist. Thank goodness my wife works as a nurse in a busy hospital during second shift (2-11) I went to four B&N's, a few BB's to price match, then stayed at another BN fifteen minutes after closing raced the 45 mutes home put the stuff away jumped in bed and wifey was none the wiser. I put these on a CC so maybe she won't notice, she is not to observant LOL.
But this was after a week ago I bought 9 others. I should have got started a week earlier but then I may have went too nuts and they wife would have caught on. She knew about the first batch and understands the importance but another 7 a week later coupled with who knows how many if I started earlier probably would have made the unobservant a bit more observant.
Just wondering if anyone else did something similar or had a last day of weakness.
.
Everyone enjoy their new films and any blind buys unwanted ( albeit unlikely) by some posters here should easily sell to others who missed out or were titles which were out of stock. -

I have just accepted as a given that twice a year (or more if Criterion has their own sale) I will be spending between $200-$400 on C. I keep two wish lists, wants and don't-wants. There are usually 1-3 don't-wants released per month. When the sales come, I pick up all released wants without hesitation. This time in particular seemed worse than usual, I needed 21 to catch up.
Good luck with the wife, that is a problem I do not have yet. But the way my girlfriend buys clothes, I think I have a solid case.Pan 65" Plasma TC-P65V10 / Onk 7.1 TX-SR607 / Onk DV-HD805 / Pan DMP-BD60 / Tosh XD-E500
