Default Amazon 60GB PS3+BT Remote+Memento+5 Movies only $499 w/Free Shipping and no tax!

Amazon is running a special is that sure to rack up the number of new Blu-ray owners and further push the Blu-ray lead over HD DVD.

It's the "The PlayStation 3 $100 Price Drop and Bonus Giveaway".

http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/103-1069184-7826225?ie=UTF8&docId=1000106451

"Order your PlayStation 3 now and for a limited time Amazon will also include, free of charge, a Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-Ray DVD Remote and a copy of the mind-bending cult favorite Memento in Blu-ray format. In addition, customers will also be given access to their choice of five free additional Blu-ray movies via a mail in rebate form."

Presumably, due to this promo, the Memento Blu-ray is now ranked #3 on Amazon DVD sales.

Maybe you should say "smackdown" or something to make it smackdown worthy .

The smackdown is the fact that it's pummeling the 360 on amazon. oh yeah, giggity giggity.

It sure would be nice if one of these companies would include the smartest and most important additional of all for this format war - an HDMI or at least a component cable set. I can't count the number of people who have been shocked in the past when I've upgraded their packed composite cables with S-Video or component. Well, the difference in THIS format is even more mind-boggling, yet people still don't understand what it takes to get true HD video out of their machine to their television.

I love the double standards from both sides on this site. When something does good for HD DVD on Amazon then Amazon numbers don't matter or reflect the market as a whole but now that the PS3 is doing good on amazon it does.

I would wait for the NPD numbers before I get too excited... Even with the lower price and the recent bad press on the 360 (failures), if Microsoft lowers the price on the 360, which most analyst seem to be expecting, this week at E3, then I think Sony will still have a rough road ahead..

I defy you HD-lad to find where I have ever said that Amazon stats don't matter.

Personally I'm waiting for the Nielsen numbers.

Will Memento be counted as a "sold" title on the neilson ratings? If so, I'd say that skews them quite a bit. Since inevitably someone will take issue with my statement, I'll already respond: Would blu-ray fans be happy if for each external hd-dvd player sold, King Kong was bundled separately and counted as an HD-DVD sold?

NPD over the next two months should show how much and if the effect is sustained. It may be hotcakes till Christmas or just this week.

Anyways, this is a Blu-ray Deals topic, not a smackdown, unless you'd rather the thread be merged with the other topics on the price drop.

This was discussed in another thread, but HD DVD has had promotions with Circuit City, Best Buy, and others where they offered instant movies with the purchase of a player. Those movies were counted by Nielsen as they were rung up by the register. Memento should have little impact to the Nielsen numbers, since they will most likely only sell sell a few thousand copies (doubt they will sell more than 5-10K at the most).

This is a fun argument, shall we expand it?

What if all those mail in HD DVD and Blu-Ray titles were included in Nielsen's numbers also? What about all those Casino Royale Blu-Ray movies given away in Europe? Or the Talagada Nights in North America?

Don't forget that Circuit City, and I believe Bestbuy, have also done give away HD DVDs which were counted in Nielsen's numbers.

Yeah. Well, you can buy HDMI cables for $1 but after losing a ton on ever PS3 I bet Sony would prefer you buy their expensive cables.
