Default Disney Confirms 'Pirates' Packaging Gaffe

An unusual packaging blunder had early adopters scratching their heads on the eve of Disney's highly anticipated 'Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End' Blu-ray release.

As long as they don't do a Jack Ryan style re-call, it should end up being no biggie.

Not much to talk about here; it is what it is. I guess it's good to see that the disc is encoded at 1080p (not that there was actually serious doubt).

However, thanks to HDD for its standard vigilance and keen eyes for advising us of this minor blunder.

The real problem of course is that the movie itself is a steaming pile.

Battlestar Galactica: Razor is improperly packaged at Best Buy.

A sticker on the front boasts of an "exclusive bonus disc including The Making of Battlstar Galactica: Razor".

Unfortunately the disc is absent, at least from the two copies I checked. However, one copy had two inserts for BSG figures and other crap and the other had nothing. You can check which copies have these inserts by shaking them. I couldn't find any copies that felt like they included the promised bonus disc. Checking that features included on the disc, nothing called The Making Of is included, so it isn't just extra content added to the single disc.

So yeah, pretty irritating.

It's not that serious of a mistake and regardless the title will sell by the boatload and add some serious numbers in our favor for Blu-Ray this holiday season.

Funny, I was just at Frys this morning, and I saw this mistake. I didnt think much of it seeing that not even 2 seconds later a lady comes up and gets her copy without even looking at that back of the cover (If you are wondering, she was buying both HD-DVD and Blu Ray movies). The movie is still in 1080p, who cares.

Quote from article

This is not the first time that Disney has encountered rough waters with the 'Pirates' franchise on high-def. As we've previously reported, the studio's Blu-ray release of 'Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl' suffered from framing issues that wrecked havoc with the film's original theatrical compositions.

end quote

That's a little strong isn't it? Hardly Wrecked havoc. From what I remember it was less than 8 mins of the film that was mis framed and it was such a glaring error that nobody noticed it for a few months Hardly wrecking havoc....

Just saying.....that's worded a little strongly. Its not like it was a combo disc that wouldn't play at all.

Yeah. I'm not really feeling the havoc.

These simple mistakes should be caught if they would actually take the time to have someone double check things. but obviously they don't have anyone double check.

OMG! This is likely the final nail in the coffin of Blu-ray!
