Default HD DVD vs blu-ray by genre

I'm a huge collector of sci-fi and horror. I was looking over my collection and comparing what both sides had per Genre. Decided to compile a list and include the movies i believe are significant on both sides. I do realize a lot of these will be subjective. Some may think titles on both sides are poor movies and should not even be counted... some may think i missed really important ones. some are only timed exclusives...

So just take it for what it's worth. Polly only be a few posts before we get "You missed x movie omg!!"

Feel free to make your own comparisons. Or maybe add a new genre like drama that i don't own enough of to compare.

The list only contains exclusives or timed exclusives in a few cases.

Horror:
HD DVD
Dawn of the dead (2004)
Land of the dead
Shaun of the dead
The Fog
Wolf Creek
Army of Darkness
Slither
The Hitcher
American Werewolf in London

blu-ray
Halloween
Dawn of the dead (1978)
Day of the dead
Evil Dead 2
Descent
Masters of horror
28 days later
28 weeks later
House of 1000 Corpses
Devil's Rejects
Underworld

Horror Result: Used to be a massive HD DVD victory but with the addition of Starz (haveing the best horror movies of all time vs more medicore HD DVD horror) it's now a big blu-ray win

Science Fiction
HD DVD
Battle Star Galactica
Heroes
Children of men
Serenity
Matrix 1-3
Pitch Black
12 Monkeys
The Thing
Transformers
V for vendetta
Waterworld
King Kong
Hulk

blu-ray
The Terminator
5th element
The Hitchhikers Guide
Day After tommorow
Fantastic 4

Sci-fi result: big HD DVD win

Commedy
HD DVD
Clearks II
Knocked up
40-year old virgin
Hapy Gilmore
Fast Times are Ridgemont High
Dzed and Confused
Mall Rats
Big Lebowski

blu-ray
Hitch
RV
Wild Hogs
Night at the Museum

Comedy result: WOW this one isn't even close. I didn't know how bad blu-ray's comedy lineup was until i had to really dig deep just to find RV. Knockout HD DVD win.

You've focused on 3 genres of movies, why neglet the rest?

Fantastic Four is Science Fiction - then why isn't Spiderman 1,2 & 3 or Night at the Museum?

Wild Hogs is not a comedy to you?

So you posted this thread to make yourself feel better about your preference for HD DVD.

yeah, this thread is missing quite a bit...

also, how are we rating these? in terms of quantity or quality? not saying one is better, but you seemed to use quantity when you rated them.

I think he means ones he already owns. HD-DVD, however may have plenty of comedies and dramas, but that's it. Blu-ray dominates in the rest of the genres retail wise. What does this mean? Well, I'm more likely to show off a Blu-ray disc when demoing my home theater than pulling out an HD-DVD. Now, don't get me wrong, I like both formats, but with the lack of titles from Paramount and Universal carrying most of the weight of the format, I see some serious problems ahead. I'd say Blu has the upper hand especially in content.

Did you bother even reading the post?

As a whole, HD DVD's movies are rated higher in terms of IMDB rankings.

I listed the movies i thought were significant on each side. Ones i perceived as low quality or poor / non significant i didn't list. As i said this is going to be pretty subjective.

I'm sure i missed a couple and this list is mainly off of my own collection because as far as horror and sci-fi go i own pretty much every decent one i can buy.

Good points, another glaringly obvious fantasy by an HD DVD owner to make themselves feel better about their format.

Blu-ray fans on the other hand need only look to things like disc sales and industry support to know they picked the right format.

Grow up friend.

To be honest if it wasn't for starz i'd be trying to make myself feel better about blowing so much money on a PS3.

It's clear HD DVD has a huge lead in the sci-fi genre. But thanks to starz blu-ray is where it's at for horror.

trying to keep it to titles that are currently out the most relevant thing to look at. If you start looking months ahead nothings stopping you from looking years ahead and then looking at titles not even announced for HD yet. I've added Night at the museum though.
