I am the only one that I know personally who has one. I've tried to talk some of my richity family members into buying one, two of them of whom were looking to replace their old televisions. Neither went with a 3DTV, despite going to watch 3D movies at the theater often.
I suppose there are three issues that come up:
1: If you want to see a movie when it hits theaters, and then go out and buy it on blu-ray 3D when it comes out, that's like double dipping. Going to many theaters now days is like handing over your debit card and pass code to a bank robber. When a large drink costs $12, jumbo popcorn $14, gas to get there $20, a 3D ticket $12, and $5 for a box of (.98 cents at wally world) candy, that's over $150 for a family of four and another $30 for the blu-ray! So, this feeling is understandable.
2: The second would be the theater experience: big sound, big screen. If I had a choice between 3D and home theater surround sound, I'd choose the sound system every time. However, I have both. Although 3D projectors are coming down in price, all of the mounts, accessories, and installation really cost a pretty penny. Add a high quality sub-woofer and center channel speaker, along with whatever L/R, LB/RB, and possibly the 6th or 7th channel speakers, and it's also about available space, room layout, and aesthetics.
Many people, including myself, have a dlp, plasma, or lcd tv for regular viewing and then a projector for the occasional BIG screen viewing.
3: Some of my friends and family members don't believe there is enough content to justify buying a 3DTV. Many think it's just a fad that will go away. If you look at the sale ads now days, 3D televisions aren't advertised nearly as much. Many movies are getting 2D-3D conversions, like John Carter, Wrath of the Titans, abraham lincoln vampire hunter, avengers, frankenweenie, titanic, star trek 2, Men in Black III, and Ghost Rider SOV. Others aren't getting 3D releases at all, like Dark Shadows, War Horse, and Red Tails.
People have a right and reason to be weary. I'm hoping that 3D will stay in the mainstream and eventually technology will allow us to have good quality glasses-free 3D. -

I own one. Right now, it's transitioning to such that you actually have to try and buy a set WITHOUT 3D. Most of the decent new sets coming out have 3d.
Currently Playing: Uncharted 3, Zelda: Skyward Sword
Back Burner: LBP2, LA Noire
Just finished: Anno 2070 (PC)
Home Theater: Panasonic PT-ae4000u, 110" Carada Brilliant White Screen, PS3
Gaming PC: I5 2500k, GTX 670, 8GB Gskill 1600 RAM, 64 GB Patriot SSD, Samsung BD Drive -

I own two (73" and 96" projection) and have talked six families, mostly relatives, into jumping on the 3D bandwagon. So far, they're all still talking to me (even my ex!). And no, I don't sell these 3D setups... they sell themselves.

I'm the only one I know that owns one.
I have convinved my parents to buy one though. THey have a 37" inch LCD and I keep bugging them to upgrade. They came over recently and checked out some 3D on my samsung and were impressed. I think they will probably buy one within the next 6 months, it just requires some re-organization of their living room. -

I have one friend who owns a 3DTV, and I know one guy at work who has 3D capabilities at home - and that is all. I myself have a 120" 3D projection theater in my basement, so I frequntly entertain all the poor lost souls who have not upgraded to 3D yet...
FEEL an awesome 3D Blu-ray movie in the Frey Theater - Now featuring projection in glorious "FREYMAX" 3D!
