'Avatar - 3D' is coming October 16
So now that the Feb 2012 exclusive contract is up, there still doesn't seem to be any information regarding a retail release of Avatar 3D. Anyone have any updates about this?
Edit: Release date is October 16:

Well not much reason to release it to soon, Fox will still release this at some optimal time point. Summer might be possible, but Q4ish for the holidays is more realistic. Probably the theatrical first, then the extended 3D version to tie into the sequel. Fox and Cameron expect this series to be a 10-15+ year cash bonanza, don't get into a hurry on any Avatar stuff.

Hmm, lets see... I saw Avatar in IMAX 3D 7 times, saw Avatar EE in IMAX 3D one more time, got the theatrical Blu-ray, got the EE Blu-ray, and got the Theatrical 3D Blu-ray... I've shown Avatar in my own theater 8 more times, to over 60 guests who hadn't seen it yet... so yeah, I can probably wait for the obvious Extended 3D edition too...

I went to see Avatar so many times in IMAX 3D basically for it's technical merits - Avatar was not the first frame-packed 3D movie I've seen (I had seen A Christmas Carol the year before, and all the 3D movies at Disneyworld), but I was just struck with how realistic the 3D looked in Avatar in IMAX. It was truly a virtual reality trip for me, I guess, so I had to see it multiple times. Yes, the movie has some glaring weak points, but I did still like it. But for the record, I watched it so many times in IMAX 3D because of the immersive 3D quality, and not that I was in total love with the movie itself... (although I did think Neytiri was pretty hot as big blue alien babes go...

i could never watch Avatar that many times.. i truly hate the movie
as far as 3D goes, now that ive been to disneyworld, nothing tops Mickey's Philermagic 3D especially the Aladdin sequence when u feel like your riding carpet thru Agrabahcha·me·le·on

Definitely still waiting for this release. Like many of you, this wasn't my favorite movie, or I would have bought it on ebay for a high price. I'm still just waiting and wondering how long it's going to be.

Lol! Chalk up another viewing of Avatar 3D in my theater - a friend from work has been wanting to visit the Frey Theater for quite some time, and he finally got a chance on Saturday... Until yesterday, he had never seen the movie Avatar, and he also had never seen a 3D movie, except for Jaws 3-D in red/blue anaglyph 30 years ago... So this was a real treat for him - he got to see Avatar for the first time - and in 4D! (3D plus seat-shaking transducers in the sofa!)
I purchased my copy of Avatar 3D from a friend online, it did cost me $60 - but at least now I don't have to concern myself with wondering when it will ever be released, and I can enjoy it right now in 3D whenever I want...

Considering they're releasing the extended cut of avatar in 2D, it's possible that they'll skip the theatrical release and go straight to the extended cut for 3D, making those 'early' releases collector's editions!

Looks like the retail release of Avatar 3D may finally be coming in October, at least to some countries...

Burmboy - The absolute best 3D presentation of all 3D movies released so far is the Hong Kong Region A (or the UK release if you have a region B player) animated Blu-ray of "Sammy's Adventure 3D", which is a movie somewhat similar to "Finding Nemo". It has the strongest 3D you can buy, with some really jaw-dropping popout - much of the action in the movie actually takes place floating out in front of the screen. The Region A disc has to be imported through yesasia or dddhouse though, and runs about $36-$38... But definitely well worth the cost and 2-week shipping!

I thought Avatar 3D would be released the day the Panasonic contract was over. Let's assume 29 February 2012 was the last day, I figured us non-Panasonic-owning mortals would be able to purchase the disc on 1 March 2012. How naive.
