Last time it was Disney's Alice wasn't it? Kudos to Sony for (a) not locking up their own titles into hardware deals and (b) using relatively short term exclusive windows with other studio's films.

I have to agree that the exclusives are bad. No matter what TV brand you buy you are loosing out on a good handful of exciting titles to view and show to friends and coworkers etc. Maybe they are not worried about it as the home 3d market doesn't have a prayer until we can have passive glasses 1080P most likely with 4k panels over the next 2-4 years as they trickle down into mid models. Cheap folks will still enjoy 1/2 res 3d that still looks good.
I guess in my mind this is all early adopter pre-game. 2 years it should be hopping or at the least have most mid to high end sets have the feature with the (4k-ness) being the prefered marketing vehicle. -

4K panels will not be needed. The CEMs will license the RealD method that allows 1080P per eye using passive glasses. The manufacturing cost is a fraction of what a 4K panel would cost. It's just another sheet of glass which runs about $235.
LOL - and since when has 100% CGI kids movies to be considered "exciting titles?" -

+1. The small benefit gained by incentivizing new 3D owners is largely outweighed by the limited exposure these exclusives create in the marketplace. And for existing 3D owners, it does little more than to create frustration, at best, and resentment, at worst, for jumping into the early adopter pre-game.
Want to appease both markets? How about bundling it for newbies and releasing it separately for everyone else. These exclusives make no sense, esp. at a time when 3D is need of wider adoption. -

I may pass on this kit and wait til the fall. I know there is nothing official yet, but I bet a new kit will be released with POTC: OST being the bundled freebie.
