Default Oakley Debuts Tron 3D Glasses

Oakley's $150 passive 3D glasses let you watch 'Tron' in style. Yes, $150.

If movie theatres were to offer a discount for people who bring their own 3D glasses these might be viable. Otherwise they're bound to fail.

    Yeah...thats a lot of dough.

Not only that, are they only good for RealD or Master Image.

I only mention that because when I saw Avatar, the guy in the Box Office gave me the wrong set of 3D glasses, he gave me the Master Image glasses, when he should have given me the RealD glasses.

Apparently theaters can have multiple 3D screens, and each 3D screen can have a different system in it, either RealD, MasterImage, or possibly even more.

And heres the tricky part, the glasses are NOT INTERCHANGEABLE.

    Nice huh?

A good idea, and hopefully we'll see other cheaper alternatives. Something contoured to your face rather than flat nerd glasses that you can see the frames of.

I would've asked for a refund and some Excedrin for the migraines induced from the movie.

~~Too much for me, but I guess this is a good alternative for people that want to look cool. Maybe for people like me, but someone that actually has money, that think the cheap free glasses are uncomfortable.

RealD uses circular polarization. So does the new LG CF3D 3D projector. So will the new Vizio 3D LCD that comes out next year. One pair of high quality glasses for both the home and the theater.

If they were around 20 bucks or so I would pick them up as long as I knew what 3d system they were for. The theater that I tend to go to shows everything in RealD. Well as of now everything I have seen there in 3d they have used RealD. The glasses that are handed out are uncomfotable so 20 bucks would be well worth it. Oakley tends to charge around 100 bucks for just sunglasses so I gues 150 isn't to bad but you are really just paying for the name.

I would imagine it will be shown in most theaters in the Disney propriatary 3D system. To make matters even more confusing, my local theater uses 3 different types of 3D technology, and then my local movie tavern uses a fourth. I am not impressed with the 3D at the Movie Tavern, and usually only see 2D movies there. The 3D at the movie tavern tends to be dark and produce ghost images. The 3D at the Rave seems to be MUCH better.

Oh, I forgot, there is ALSO Imax 3D. That adds yet a whole other 3D system into the mix.

Truthfully, I have never paid more than $20 for sunglasses, and don't intend to pay anything other than the movie-theater surcharge for glasses that I will wear once. I doubt that this will sell more than a few thousand pears, if that much. Tron was a box-office-bomb (no matter how much I love it), and not much more than a cult classic, and I do not expect the sequel to do much better.
