Default Sony Releases the 3D Firmware Update for Capable Blu-ray Players

The update is free, of course, and applies to both the BDP-S470 and BDP-S570 players. If you picked up the BDV-E570 or BDV-E770W home theater systems, you'll be able to update today as well.

I really don't see what all the fuss is about with 3D. Movies are not meant to be funfair rides for the most part and if I wanted to be transported into a movie, I'd play a decent videogame. 3D is just another stupid marketting gimmick, and is not something that even remotely interests me.

It doesn't have the required SoC that can handle 3D. It can't be upgraded because it is a hardware issue.

The PS3 can be upgraded because it doesn't use an SoC. It uses the Cell BE which is software based.

Plus you need a 2X speed BD drive, which the PS3 has and your player does not.

I'm still undecided about 3D in the home. It's exciting in the cinema, but I do find it less relaxing on the eyes so it can be a drag on a long film.

I've seen the 3D Blu-ray / 3D TV demos in TV showrooms etc. and they are very impressive, but... I can't see the wife and I and two kids (under 5 and under 2!) wearing the glasses in our living room.

We just watched Alice in Wonderland over the weekend on (2D) Blu-ray and I must say, it looks practically three dimensional without any glasses in sight!

If my TV dies, I'll buy a 3D compatible one to replace it, but in the meantime, I'm not changing!

We are still waiting for the PS3 firmware update that will make it 3D Blu-ray capable.

I monsieur's reaction is the consensus on 3D right now. Some will pay for it but most will wait.
