Sony issued another firmware almost immediately. Took Samsung awhile but they eventually issued a fix. Maybe waiting for the next firmware or calling Panasonic about the availability of another future firmware will alleviate your problem with you BD30. Did you happen to call Panny and ask if it is possible that a future firmware could fix your playback problem with your BD30???

taygan, thank you for the reply. I was thinking the same thing that it's possible that the firmware update caused the problems since the problem started immediately after the update. I didn't ask the service rep if he thought a future firmware update might fix the problem but I did ask him if I could revert back to the 1.6 F/W and he said no. I think that it might be quicker to send in my player for a fix than to wait for the next F/W update.
