Personally, the rooms just seem like a wasteful 'virtual' space that's completely unnecessary... so, I'd tend to dissagree with your speculation on this one.

Occasionally, sure... but usually, 360's got the better version(s)... but the differences are so subtle, it's really a non-issue. Even games like Virtua Fighter - which is substantially better on 360 with *far* superior anti-aliasing and an online implimentation that's missing entirely on the PS3 - don't have big enough differences to really matter all that much... for all intents and purposes, the PS3 and 360's multipat games are the same. The differences are far too minute to care about.

...maybe if PS3 had something comparable to those titles, I might own a PS3... but alas, 360's library is better - so I don't need a PS3... unless I get too tired of waiting for Blu-ray to come down in cost...
