Superbad/Pineapple Express crossover movie coming
Quote:
This whole idea is just a bit insane! For one, Seth Rogen is in both movies, but as different characters. Two, I don't think they were in the same city, but maybe that doesn't matter. Anyway, let's get further into this news before we start discrediting the idea entirely. Back at my Pineapple Express screening during Comic-Con, Judd Apatow mentioned in the Q&A that they might considering putting together a Superbad / Pineapple Express crossover movie where the two stories intertwine somehow. Everyone thought it was a joke, because it's such a far-fetched idea, but I looked back at Greg Mottola, who directed Superbad, who was sitting directly behind me and ask him if it was real. He just smiled and shrugged, mentioning "we'll see." Now MTV chats with James Franco and he actually confirms that they're working on it!
Franco, who may get my vote for the best on-screen stoner ever, actually clarifies the situation. He explains that Sony has been pushing for Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg (who wrote both Superbad and Pineapple Express) to write a sequel to Superbad, however, Rogen and Goldberg don't want to actually write one. "And so, an answer to that was to do a Superbad / Pineapple Express crossover, an unprecedented crossover movie with two directors, Greg Motolla and David Gordon Green, each directing half of the movie and somehow these characters get together, which doesn’t make sense at all, but could work." I'll be damned, they're actually trying to make it happen! And if you're still shaking your head in disbelief and mumbling about how that could never work, Franco even goes on to pitch an idea that could work.
"I could sell them [the characters from Superbad] something, but I think we'd want some action, so you know, somehow the kids get in trouble somehow and we have to get them out of it. And Seth plays characters in both movies, so somehow we'd have to kill one of them off." As crazy as that all sounds, it actually would work! Now that it all makes sense, the movie geek juices are flowing in my mind! I loved Superbad, my favorite comedy of last year, and I enjoyed Pineapple Express quite a damn bit, so the prospect of combining these two into one epic crossover movie sounds absolutely amazing! And I'm not just getting wrapped up in the hype here, this sounds like something that could not only be immensely entertaining but a huge hit at the box office.

Pineapple Express and Superbad rank as #1 and #2 of my comedies ever and now they are combining? My God
